Why did you come in to my life, I ask.

To teach me an important lesson, perhaps?

To enhance my burgeoning self esteem?

To bring me exquisite pleasure uncontained?

Wondering what brought us together

But not questioning it too deeply.

Trying not to analyze the “whys” or “how comes”,

Just accepting the gift of your affection with gratitude.

I thrill to read your words.

Waiting with anticipation for them to flash on the screen.

Wanting you to take me away, far away into another world,

One where you and I are the only ones to enter.

You whisk me away to a place I have never been.

You take my hand and show me the way,

Encouraging me to explore you as well as myself.

Bringing me delight beyond compare.

The questions once again form in my mind

Unbidden, but present there nevertheless.

What does this mean? Where will it lead?

How do I know for sure if this is the right path?

I quiet the questions and allow myself to feel.

Knowing within that this is right, pure and necessary.

I look into your eyes and see an acknowledgement

Of all that is, but can never really be outside of this place.

Right now, the fire burns brightly, the flames stoked daily.

A time will come when that will no longer be the case.

A fire built on a solid foundation and tended with care,

May not burn as bright, but remains glowing within for all time.
