How can I tell you?
The words lay between us,
They are unspoken,
But even unspoken they’ve caused damage.

My eyes shimmer with tears,
Yours darken with anger,
How do I banish all these fears?

My simple insecurities,
That you unknowingly created,
All the promises you’ve made,
And broken,
All the things I once took for granted,
They’re no longer there.

So many things I want to tell you,
And yet I can’t find the courage,
If I told you,
Would you listen?

I open my mouth,
To speak the words,
And they slip away,
Gone on the breeze.

Unexpectedly you turn and walk away,
Even those three little words cause damage,
Words, the cause and solution to all
Life’s mysteries and problems.

As you leave I whisper the words,
But you’re too far away,
Finally the words are spoken,
But they can’t heal the damage.

Silence

Of opportunities lost;

Of words unspoken that rend

When spoken can heal.
