When the words wont come
and the silence is unbroken,
time stretches,
reeling into the future
with only hurt to guide it.
I have nothing to say
that you wish to hear,
it seems.
My apologies fall
on deaf ears
and anger echoes
through the house,
wrenching my heart
and hardening yours.
There must be words
that you would hear,
something I could say
to heal this wound
between us.

I am lost.

Nothing comes that
I have not already said.

Deaf ears.

So my tears fall silent,
cold and ugly
in your house.

Our house?

Not tonight.

Tonight I am an intruder,
breaking your peace
and stealing serenity
because I cannot
find a phrase that would
fix this, fix us.
Time stretches,
it is cold and we
are both alone.
It is not right to feel
so lost with love
just down the hall,
waiting for the whisper
that like a kiss
would seal the breach.

I cannot find the words.
