If you've never been down in a coal mine,
Deep down in a cold wet black hole.
You've never experienced terror,
Or felt any fear for your soul!

When you go to work in a coal mine,
You have to learn to live with fear.
Because evil is all around you,
And the "Grim Reaper" is always near!

The cold wet blackness of a coal mine,
Is so evil it steals the light.
When the ground around starts it's moaning,
It's an awesome terrible sight!

Sometimes the hole you're working in,
Is pressing against every side.
The hole's so small it's claustrophobic,
It's so fearsome some men have died!

You think as you work about cave-ins,
And some things like buried alive.
A coal miner's life is so weary,
The coal miner works to survive!

If you live to survive the coal mines,
Death will come get you anyways.
Because by now you got the "Black Lung,"
And he'll not survive many days!!
