I know things could have turned out differently
If we hadn't turned our backs on each other
But would'ves could'ves and should'ves won't change us

Though unlike Humpty Dumpty we don't have to fear
If either of us takes a great fall off the brick wall
'Cause we can put each other back together again

Oh I would've
And you could've
Yeah we should've
When we were thick like thieves in the heart of it all
But all the would'ves could'ves and should'ves
Mean nothing on the back of love's ill fated truth

Sure I know some days had more questions than minutes
As we turned out our pockets answers coming up empty
Wishing we had enough fight left in us even to lose

'Cause another bridge was built to narrow this divide
Inside this city that sleeps upon pews of loneliness
Where supplicants pound their fists in rites of devotion

Oh I would've
And you could've
Yeah we should've
Before reaching a split at the end of our road
But all the would'ves could'ves and should'ves
Mean nothing in the midst of it all falling apart

So if you ever get lonely and need a shoulder to lean on
Come on over and lay your weary head upon mine
We'll drink down a cool throat of Black Eyed Lemonade

Lazily on the back porch of love's sheltered refuge
We'll watch laughing leaves dance from boughing branches
As day turns to night leaving us sleeping under the stars

Oh I would've
And you could've
Yeah we should've
Under the moon praying over old love letters
But all the would'ves could'ves and should'ves
Mean nothing as our love goes down in flames

When morning finally comes dancing around again
And our lost n' tired souls are looking to be found
I'll pull out my hidden roadmap back to reality

Sure we're a couple of starry eyed dreamers
But as the wise ones say if wishes were horses
We'd be riding bareback under the desert sun

Oh I would've
And you could've
Yeah we should've
When we're facing the truth of our consequences
But all the would'ves could'ves and should'ves
Mean nothing as our future is buried under past tenses

Excellent lyric. I can see it being a hit on CMC. Thanks for sharing.
