    Thoughts cut short by piercing voices
the ear's a seething tube, reverberating
and echoing those truths I won't acknowledge –
    they're not more truthful when they're loud!
I only wonder what they're all about
and why on earth they're thought that all-important
    that they should make you shout.

    I'd rather you would count me out –
what does it matter if I'm not converted?
I'm as unhappy as you'd ever make me,
    far happier than you could devise;
no single person frowns, no one rejoices
whatever your results – why don't you cease
    and leave me to my choices?
