(the gentleness of your touch
inexplicably
withdrawn
and mine
equally from you)
the tenderness as we sleep
or bound joyfully toward
each new version of the other
is poorly replaced
in emptiness
by grey,
endless,
open yearning.

and so I occupy myself
in the hours
of not understanding
where you have gone,
knowing
you and I

are always, ever
nakedly holding
one another
through the
cold of daylessness,
that we are ever
entwined and eternal--

yet in all ephemerality
strangely
your daily voyages
have become
unknown to me
and mine
equally to you

poorly replaced
in the emptiness
of hollow hearts
in this grey,
endless,
open
space of yearning.

This piece does a good job creating the emptiness it speaks of.
