Yesterday

I want to be the first flutter of happiness when you wake

And the last sigh of contentment as you drift into sleep

I want to be the reason there is a smile resting on your lips

I want to be your shelter, your heart's home

I want you to miss me when I'm not there

When you're surrounded with people,

my empty place should still be visible

I don't want to be your second thought.

that phone call you make because you have to.

Some chore

An Interruption

A burden

I want to be neccessary to your world

just as you have been to mine.

The moment I fail to be a source of light in your life

..is the day I will be gone.

I think that day was yesterday.
