you are the tree of my youth
that stands tall and all alone
in a field by the house

you are the silent observer of the
comatose cows who are clueless

you are waiting for the boy
to part the barbed wire
and sprint across the grass
of sweet covered dewscent

and he will outrace the corn
that stands tall and starched
in the blurred beyond

and he will embrace
your rough trunk
with tender hands
in a brotherly hug

and he will place his cheek upon you
as he catches his breath

then he will climb toward heaven
just like the way that you grow

then he will scale you
and you will hold him
in your manly arms
far above this earth

then from your lofty heights
he will sight the flowing creek
as it shimmers so far below
and beneath the morning sun

finding a place to nestle
a place where he can dream
where he can think big thoughts

witnessing a robins egg hatch
and hearing the hungry peeps
as he glorifies the feeding

observing the curving clouds
as they float by in the sky
filled with deep blue hope

to contemplate the clouds
the creek the birds the sun and
the concept of perpetual motion

to understand that life
is like the wind
that never ends

to stay awhile
and think about
what tomorrow might mean.

I have loved

many a tree, named them, made them my protector of the day, my best friend..Steve knows this in his own heart, ( I think) that trees are witnesses to events and people long gone and forgotten, deserving of respect :) Thank you for making me wanna go hug a tree this morning! You have such a beautiful way with words

The love of a tree? Not really.

I think that everyone can relate to this, wether they have known that tree or not. I find this more to be about any of those symbols of innocent mix of adventure and safety that only children truly knows what they mean.
