Again I sit in wonder
Again I sit and pray
Again I contemplate
What to do today,

Your number on my telephone
Your image on my brain
Your DNA on my tongue
The course of action plain,

Drive down to your cul-de-sac
Drive down to your place
Drive down memory lane
Confront you face to face,

Ask you what you’re doing
Ask you how you’ve been
Ask you if you’d like
To do it once again,

Would you say ‘for certain’
Would you say ‘you bet’
Would you slowly kiss me
Like when we first met,

Take me by the collar
Take my by the hand
Take me to your sanctuary
The room of shifting sand,

Tell me to be quiet
Tell me to be still
Tell me exactly what to do
Then let me have my fill,

Of your sweet surrender
Of your boiling stew
Of your tarnished splendor
Do the things you do,

You’d think I’d have the power
You’d think I have the spine
You’d think really could avoid
You and your kind,

As old as creation
As old as can be
As old as forever
The fate of men like me,

Weak in the heart
Weak in the knees
Weak resolution
So eager to please,

A sense of self fulfillment
A sense of do or die
A sense that one can really
Jump off the cliff and fly,
