"Right," Rachel said as she tried to stop her tears and failed, "I just ,... I - I don't want to be here tonight. I want to be with my son, somewhere - " she sobbed a little, "somewhere where I can forget about him; where I'm not reminded no matter where I look."

They met Copper and Simmit at the entrance to the long tunnel and Rachel asked him to stop and put her down. "I want to thank you for this, and please thank Rohkanh. I think I'm ruining a special night for you, and I don't want to do anything like that. I can see what you need to do, so --"

Copper stood frowning and shaking her head, "You're not ruining anything and I'm a grumbly dwarf, so take it the way that I mean it. In case you haven't had time to notice, he's not a tree, though he's as big as one. He wants to carry you. It's his way to ask for your forgiveness."

Rachel stared at Copper and saw Simmit nodding with a smile. Simmit thought to say something, but she held it back as she looked at her brother standing with Rachel in his arms.

---------------------

Back in the bar, Cha'Khah was smiling a little, "I think it is just my girl's heart here, but the way that he carried Rachel said much to me, as though he would carry her that way through anything which might come."

"I think I saw that," Selana nodded, "He looked like what Simmit says he is. He looked like a protector."

Nika chuckled a little and spoke to Ksyusha, not having just the right word in her expanding English. "Nika says that Rohkanh also looked just a tiny bit triumphant to her, but she says that she had to look long enough for it that she had to doubt what she might have seen in his face. I think what she saw was that he was just happy to be doing something besides just looking at Rachel and watching her cry."

"Well," Dahlgren said with a little smile, "I did hear Simmit say that he fought with Azrael, though I have trouble seeing Azrael lose."

He looked into his tankard for a moment, "There's an old human expression. To the victor go the spoils. Hey, do we still have any of this wonderful stuff left?"

---------------------

Rachel looked at Rohkanh's face and he smiled at her. He didn't know what was said; it was just plain that he was pleased that Rachel seemed to be better for the moment, but he had no way to tell her.

He looked down at Sariel as they walked together and thought for a moment.

Sariel ducked a little as he heard a thin whining sound and felt a tiny bit of wind wafting by behind him. It was too early for bugs, he thought and he turned his head just in time to move. A little red spark whined past his head and he looked up to see the large demon's smile as he walked looking straight ahead as though he knew nothing of it.

Sariel grinned a little and then there was a bright blue spark flying away from his upturned palm, lifting off to chase the red one.

The two bright spots few around them all, chasing each other. Sariel was determined to drive his spark into the red one and he watched carefully, looking for his chance. It took a bit of effort, since he was walking at the same time.

When he glanced for a moment, Rohkanh was speaking to his mother, saying something quiet that he guessed was to try to make her feel better. What surprised the boy was that the demon didn't appear to need to control the red spark at all. It seemed to have a will of its own - unlike his, which needed to be driven with his thoughts. He ducked again as he heard the whine approaching and the red dot flew past with the blue spot in hot pursuit.

Rohkanh shifted Rachel slightly as they all walked, so that he could put his hand on Sariel's shoulder as he looked down and said something.

"Rohkanh says that he knows that he has taken your father from you," Simmit translated, "It is not usually done where we come from, but he says that if you wish, he would take you as his son gladly. He could teach you. He knows that you have a hunger to learn, and ... he says that he has a hunger to have a son like you and the little imps that he will raise with Copper and me." She grinned and pointed toward the twins who rode on Copper's shoulders and waved at Sariel -- when they weren't making faces at him.

Sariel looked up and didn't know how to answer as Rohkanh spoke to Simmit. He didn't think that he wanted anything like that. He wasn't a little kid anymore and ...

In the second that he hadn't been driving it, the blue dot slowed and was destroyed by the red one in a tiny flash as they both went out. "How did you do that?" Sariel asked, "You weren't even looking."

Simmit translated and grinned, "He says that looking is not needed and you should think about what he says and he asks the young mage to give us more light in this tunnel."

Sariel nodded, glad to have something to take his mind off what had been said. He chose the incantation that he wanted and a moment later, the walls shone brighter.

"Besht tah," Rohkanh smiled, "Irghut jsah tert, Sariel, M-more now. Fast-er."

Sariel looked at Simmit, "What did he say at the beginning?"

Simmit grinned, "He says that you are mighty for a young one. He asks for more light."

Sariel looked at the walls and the tunnel entrance far away. He'd already given it his best. "How?" he looked up and saw Rohkanh smile and offer his hand.

"Take his hand and give more light, he says, and he will do the rest."

Sariel reached for the demon's hand and Rohkanh nodded as he tried for more words, "We, ... same," he smiled before he indicated the end of the tunnel still far from them with a nod, "Want now. Want be there."

Sariel understood and looked down the length of the tunnel. The walls flickered and then it was as bright as high noon all around them. A moment later, they stepped out into the glare of the Bradley's headlights as it sat idling where Copper had left it. Sariel was astounded. They'd only continued walking, but now they were at the entrance.

They walked outside, two females holding hands followed by a large demon holding the hand of a smaller one while carrying a sniffling Rachel.

Sariel let go of the large hand and stared, "How did you -- you didn't say anything. I watched you."

"You," Rohkanh said, "Was you." He looked at Simmit and spoke.

"He says that you have been taught well, but you have other magic to use, and that needs no words. My brother only helped to push it. He asks who taught you the rest, not the saying of words, but the rest of what you have."

"My father," Sariel said, "but he never taught me anything like that."

Rohkanh reached down and touched Sariel's shoulder for a moment with a warm smile.

"He says that you have more power than your father. You only need to be shown. He says to only ask him when you are ready, though you already carry much ability."

"What now?" Rachel asked, wiping her face again.

"Simmit's gonna drive," Copper said, "and Sariel's coming with us in this steel pig here. Rohkanh is way too big to fit comfortably with Luddy already back there too, and I think he wants to fly, so I'm gonna leave all the lights on for him to follow. Come on, Sariel. You'll want to see this."

Rohkanh set Rachel down very carefully and she thanked him, a little surprised that she now missed being held by him a little bit. Simmit stood with them to tell her brother the way and the distance. After he nodded, she spoke to him quickly and then she turned to Rachel.

"My brother will bring you to Yuan's home in a little while. He asks that he be allowed to speak to you. He knows very little of this speech, but you are also partly the same as we are but from another place, we think, so we hope that you might understand a little. Will you hear his words?"

Rachel nodded, suddenly surprised that she'd been leaning against Rohkanh since just after he'd set her down. She knew that she'd done it because she'd wanted to do it, but she hadn't noticed when it had happened. She just knew that it felt good.

"I am happy then," Simmit smiled. She began to turn away, but then she seemed to change her mind and she stepped forward, quickly reaching for Rohkanh's hand through the space between Rachel's arm and her side.

She placed his hand very carefully against Rachel's other side so that her brother's arm was around Rachel and she stepped back with a warm smile on her face. "Forgive me," she said, "I wished to see this so much." She turned then and was gone around the back of the rumbling machine.

The ramp whined up as Sariel stood inside looking everywhere, "Whoa, ... what is this thing?"

"My toy," Copper grinned as Simmit moved past them on her way to the front. "Picture, Copper," she said, pointing toward the front of the vehicle, "Picture. Hurry."

Copper thought that her lover had lost her mind -- until she grabbed the little joystick and the optics on top of the turret swung forward as Sariel continued to look around in awe.

Copper was looking at an arm, so she pulled the magnification back and the image became Rohkanh standing behind Rachel with his arm around her. Her thumb pressed down and locked the optics onto the view as she activated the recording system. Simmit jumped into the driver's seat and the engine roared as she turned it around neatly and began to motor into the woods. Copper sat him in the commander's position and began to point out the situational displays and the targeting systems as the optics on the turret stayed locked on the pair standing still behind them. She sighed with a smile, and turned the recorder off.

"Can I see?" Simmit called back.

"Hell no," Copper grinned, "You'll do the same as me and stare with a goofy grin and then we'll be into the trees. You can look later."

-------------------

Rachel had been shocked and embarrassed at what Simmit had done. She felt foolish and stood with her eyes closed as she heard the quiet squeaks and rumblings of the machine and listened as the roar of the engine receded. The wind wasn't terribly cold to her, but still, she felt his warmth as something which her body cherished, though -- other than the obvious, she had no explanation why.

She felt awkward now and tried to fight off the feeling of immense comfort which came to her from Rohkanh. He made no sound, other than his deep and quiet breathing. Rachel wanted to lift her head from where it rested against Rohkanh's chest, but found that she really didn't want to. If she looked up, she could just see his face above her, upside down, "Aren't we going with them?"

"Wait," Rohkanh said, "give time, then .. fly.

You ..." he struggled as he looked for the word, and she smiled when he looked pleased as it came to him, "better?"

She nodded as she turned around carefully and hoped that his arm would remain against her. She was slightly thrilled to feel that it did and was now against her back far down, but above her bottom, "Yes. Thank you."

She looked at him and smiled a little, knowing that he wouldn't understand her, "You'd better be careful," she said slowly, "Sooner or later, I just know that I'll be on the rebound, and you're ...,"

She exhaled and tried to catch her gasp, "... you're so fucking beautiful to me."

She wiped her face again, still crying a little, though she was feeling a good deal better.

"Can I , ...?" she stood on her toes and reached up as she brought her face closer and seeing no objection from him, she did what she knew that she shouldn't even have the thought of and she kissed him very softly. He returned her kiss in just the same way and Rachel looked down feeling a swirl of emotions. His chest felt so good against her breasts. It felt a little strange to her, the way that the bottom edge of his ribcage lay across her nipples. She almost had to bite down on her lower lip from the sensation each time that he inhaled.

In her demonic form, Rachel was like both the Red demons and the Merren demons in that she was bare-skinned, other than her mane, eyebrows and pubic hair. But Rohkanh wasn't like that. He was like Simmit; covered in short, straight,. smooth and thick fur, less than an inch long anywhere that she could see on him aside from his mane which was as long and just as appealing to her as his sister's was.

She rested her hands on his shoulder and chest, marveling at how good it felt to let her fingers spread out to feel that fur. It was driving her breasts and nipples crazy and she had to will herself to pull her lower belly away from the heat of his loins. She kept doing just that, and the second that her mind was elsewhere, she was back against him so slowly and softly that she didn't notice it until it came to her mind again.

She sniffled a little, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have kissed you like that. You're Simmit's and I think that I saw that there's something between you and Copper as well, or there will be soon."

Rachel began to cry again. She couldn't help it. She buried her face against him, wanting to hide in her shame for the way that she felt. He held her head against him, but he pressed upward against her chin very gently with a finger until she looked at him and he touched her cheek, brushing a tear away with his thumb. His expression showed his concern and his desire to know more, since he felt that there was new trouble now.

Rachel saw it and she sobbed, "I'm just like Azrael. I've just realized it. I've been alone for almost all of my adult life. I ... I never had anyone for so long after Sariel was born until Azrael came. All of the others have someone, and I've had no one for months. Now I know that I'm just as much of a slut as my brother."

She sniffled and wiped her eyes with a determined look, "Well I'm not going to hurt those two girls of yours or anyone else, Rohkanh. I'm going to raise my son and that's it. Who knows? I might find somebody eventually and ..."

She stopped in mid-sentence. Rachel was fooling herself. She knew it as she buried her face again and wept as Rohkanh groaned in his frustration to understand without his sister there to help. "Rachel," he whispered in that deep way of his, "I ... know how ... feels. Cry, but... lis-ten?"

When he felt her nod, he did his best. "We, ... us, ... same, Rachel. I -- need Simmit, yes?"

He waited for her to nod before he struggled up the next slope. "I want Copper. I --. "

He ran out of words then and sought others. "We fly soon. You cry, Rachel. I need Simmit's talk. Not say words I want."

He lifted her chin very gently again with his finger, but it took a long moment before she looked up this time, and her tears still ran as she sobbed quietly.

"Time," he said, "you see then. Time, you get better."

She wanted to argue, needing him to understand that time wouldn't help her. She didn't want any male anymore, she only wanted Sariel to hold onto, since she knew that as grown-up as he often tried to show himself to be, he was a boy and he was hurting too, no matter what he said to anyone -- especially the mother who could see right through him.

She knew that for anything else, he was too big a child now to sleep with, but she also knew that they needed to hold onto each other and cry. She wasn't looking forward to it because she felt so lost herself, but she was his mother and she could be the one that he could cry against until he had it out of him.

But Rachel didn't want a male now. She didn't want anyone, she told herself as she looked into his sad face and swallowed hard, knowing the truth at the same time that she lied to herself.

"Not the same you," he said, "Not like Azrael. Rachel is fine, ... female, good mother." He sighed as he spoke more to himself almost silently, but she heard it, "Rachel is ..." He petered out then, not finding the word that he needed and also realizing that she listened.

"Rohkanh see this. I -- take Simmit. I take Copper, need them. Need family. Time Rachel, time and ... care? Give time for every-thing and, ... trust Simmit. Talk to Simmit, yes?"

Hellfire, how she wanted him, she thought.

She watched as he raised his head and looked off into the night. She could see that he was thinking about something as he set his jaw and nodded to himself. She wondered what that was about for a moment, but then he looked down and smiled at her. "A little time," he said, "and Rohkanh."

While she puzzled over it, he kissed her again, as softly as before, but Rachel thought that she'd heard something in there which was more than his gentle concern and though she knew that what she felt was wrong in her view of everything ...

She put her hands against his chest and she heaved, pushing him backwards, groaning with the effort and her need. He must be only a little heavier than Copper's tank, she thought, almost smirking.

Rohkanh's eyes opened wide as his back crunched against the wall of the portal. He had time for only one breath and she was on him, hating and accusing herself for being just like her worthless brother in this regard. It was how she saw it, but she didn't know that likely none of the others would have seen it that way.

Rachel buried her fingers in his mane and ran her other hand over his chest as though she wanted to absorb some of his vast strength as she kissed him in her need. She wasn't thinking, other than knowing the guilt that she'd feel for this later. She wasn't thinking at all.

If she'd had the ability to pull back outside of herself and watch this little scene as it unfolded -- and even before then, she'd see something quite different as an observer. She's see a lonely and forsaken demon with a broken heart, but a demon nonetheless, a female who'd been trying to sit on her aching need for half a year at the least.

She reached around the small of Rohkanh's powerful back to pull them together while still pushing forward to keep him pinned if she could. His lips tasted and felt so good to her when her long tongue snaked into his mouth as she took him. Her nostrils flared a little as she inhaled his wonderful scent.

She wasn't seeing this as an unaffected observer. She'd have seen other things then, if she'd known or had the brain cells to devote to anything but her want. Rohkanh had gone over two years without the touch of a female and he was a demon as well -- a large, powerful demon, who was already struggling over how it was different here.

Back home, this would be so easy.

As his own feelings rose up in him, he considered Azrael to be an idiot to want to leave this female alone in an empty bed wanting for him. Rohkanh was already struggling because to his mind, he'd beaten Azrael. He just hadn't killed him, not having a reason to, but back where he came from, if you beat an adversary and that foe had anything that you desired, well then it was yours -- his female included.

Back where he'd grown up, a protector who had won just took the one that he wanted, though Rohkanh had never done that. Most females taken like this went willingly because they received the same honor as the ones claimed as tributes, and being with a protector sure beat whatever they'd been spending their time with. Even the ones who put up a fight came around most times unless the loser was a blood relative or the protector was cruel and most were not.

That had never been what Rohkanh had wanted to do anyway. He had Simmit and she was enough, but things were different here and he knew what Simmit also wanted for him.

Back home, this would be so easy, but there was no Rachel there.

Rohkanh gave up then and responded to Rachel. His own long tongue got in the game and they moaned together as his arms held her to him and he slid his hands over the smooth and silky nakedness of her haunches and cheeks. He wasn't used to it, but he now loved the way that it felt when he reached to brush his fingertips along the line between her haunches and how the base of Rachel's tail flicked over the tops of his fingers while the end of it almost whipped his legs, one after the other.
