Chapter 10: Final

It seemed that we made it back to PA in record time. Although I was tired, I was too wired to sleep. Johanna and I stared out of the front window, replaying over and over what had just happened. By the time we got back to my parent's house, it was getting light out.

Quietly, the 4 of us tip toed into the foyer and made our way into the basement. I plunked down on the couch and Jo did the same. Josh took the chair and Brian the loveseat. We all kind of stared at each other for a few minutes and occasionally one person would open their mouth to say something but then closed it again quickly.

I was ready to go to bed when Josh's cell phone rang. He pulled it from his pocket and glanced at the caller ID.

"It's Emily." He said shrugging, opening the phone. "Hello?"

"Josh...I need you...something's wrong..." Emily sobbed into the receiver. Josh paled, taking a deep breath.

"What is it Em? What's the matter?"

"I think...I think I'm having a miscarriage." By now we could all hear the crying through the phone. "There is blood everywhere!"

"Em, I'll be right there." Josh said, getting up from the chair. He snapped the phone closed and headed towards the stairs. He stopped momentarily to kiss me with a promise to call me later. I offered to go with him, but he thought it was better he went alone.

After he left the rest of us headed upstairs to the kitchen. By now it was almost 7am and I heard my mother walking around in her room. I came up with a story within a few minutes and both Brian and Jo promised to collaborate. When my mother walked into the kitchen was she shocked.

"Oh my God!" she said, reaching for me. "What in the world are you doing here?"

"Well, Johanna and I decided that Baltimore wasn't the place for us and that we wanted to live here. So, we kind of quit our jobs and headed up here. Josh and Brian came and got us." I smiled while being hugged by my mother. "We wanted it to be a surprise."

"Well, it sure is!" she exclaimed practically bouncing with excitement. "I'm going to make breakfast for everyone!" she said heading towards the cupboard. I sighed with relief that my mother didn't ask any more questions about the reason we were there. I just wanted to take a shower and crawl into bed for a few days and sleep.

After breakfast was finished I was headed upstairs to fulfill my earlier wish when the phone rang in the kitchen. I heard my mother answer and then call for me.

"Angel! Its Josh!" She said, trotting the phone to me. "He says he needs to talk to you."

I took the phone from my mother's hand and said hello to Josh. He spoke for a few minutes and I listen quietly. When he was done talking I hung up the phone and handed it back to my mother.

"I have to go." I said simply, turning to head up stairs and find something to wear to the hospital. My mom was left calling after me, but I had no time or the desire to explain to her where or why I was going to the hospital.

I took my mothers car and raced to the hospital and parked. I took a few deep breaths and headed inside. I located the waiting room and saw Josh standing in the lobby waiting for me. He took me into his arms and kissed me.

"She miscarried." He said, holding my hand in his. "The doctor said there was nothing he could do."

"Oh my God." I said shocked at what was happening. "How is she?"

"Holding up. She's sleeping now. They just finished the D & C and they are going to keep her overnight. " Josh ran his fingers through his hair. "It was a boy."

I sucked in my breath. I knew that Josh was unhappy in his marriage and that Emily had gotten pregnant for the sole purpose of trapping Josh, but the fact that he was going to be a father kept him sane. Now, knowing he was going to have a baby boy seemed to make him see the situation differently.

"I'm so sorry Josh." I kissed his cheek. "Look, maybe I shouldn't be here. I mean, I'm not family or anything..." I trailed off. I didn't know what to do.

"Angel, now more than ever I need you here. I need to be with you."

I wanted to be there for Josh but I knew that Emily wouldn't be happy to know that while she was lying in a hospital bed, her husband, the father of her child was in the hall professing feelings for his lover. I had to go.

"Listen, call me when you can. I'll be here. I'm not going anywhere." I kissed him again, this time on the lips and he held me closer for a hug.

"I love you Angel." He said. I turned and headed back down the hall. I was waiting for the elevator when the one on the left dinged and the arrow pointing down lit up. I stood to the side to let an older couple exit before I entered. They both looked ragged and tired. The gentleman held the door for me to enter and looked me directly into the eyes.

I squinted, my brow furrowing while my brain processed this act. I knew I was tired and high on adrenaline, but I swore the older man looked familiar. The doors closed as I watched the couple walk down the hall in the direction I had just come from. I mulled over the sequence in my head until the door dinged again and opened into the main level of the hospital.

I found my mothers car and headed back to her house, this time doing the speed limit. I was so tired and I felt I could sleep for a week.

Several days later after the excitement of Johanna and my return died down, Josh came over to the house. Johanna and I were pouring over newspapers, looking for jobs. Legitimate jobs.

"Hey," he called softly into the kitchen. "Wanted to stop by and see how you were." I looked up from the paper and smiled.

"Doing good." I said, standing. "How areyou?" I asked.

"Good." He paused, licking his lips. "Can I talk to you for a minute?" He asked.

"Sure." I said, motioning him to follow me to the living room. The moment we were alone he pulled me close to his body and kissed me deeply. It felt like a long time since he had kissed me, and I melted into him.

He pulled away and sat me on the couch. He took my hands in his and took a deep breath.

"I am going to leave Emily." He said flatly. I looked at him, unbelieving.

"What? Why?" I asked half shocked.

"Why? Why do I need to be married to her now for? The only reason I married her to begin with was because her father wouldn't let his daughter become the town slut and have a child out of wedlock."

"Well, that's no reason to not be with her now."

"You don't understand. The only reason I married her was because she was pregnant. Now that she's not, there is no reason for me to be with her anymore."

"But you work for her father. You'll lose your job, your title, everything!" I said, trying not to raise my voice and trying not to sound...what? Happy, sad, excited? I knew that he could be with me even if he was with Emily, but now that he had a chance to be with me completely was a new feeling.

"I know. But that is what I am willing to sacrifice to be with you. The problem is that Richard will have a hell of a time accepting the fact that I want to leave his daughter. He'll go ballistic." Sighing, he pulled me into his lap and nuzzled my neck. "Is anyone home?" He asked in a whisper.

"No. Brian is out with my mom and Johanna is still in the Kitchen." He glanced towards the stairs and I followed his gaze. He lifted me from his lap and we headed to my room, clawing at each other's clothes on the way. I closed the bedroom door softly and had Josh sit on the oversized chair in the corner of my room. I knew he was upset, and I had just the thing for him to feel better.

I sauntered over to him slowly while I unbuttoned my first two buttons on my shirt. He smiled as he sat down in the oversized leather chair. My breasts spilled out of my shirt and I undid another button to emphasize. I leaned over him and placed my breasts in his face. He rubbed his stubble between them and kissed the sides. He growled low in his throat and grabbed my back to pull me closer.

I kissed his waiting lips and traveled down his neck. I kissed his skin that was exposed at the top of his shirt. I started to unbutton his shirt and kissed my way down as I went. I reached for his belt buckle and rubbed the hard mound between his legs. I unzipped the fly and let the warm erection fill my hands. I fell to my knees and took it in my mouth.

Slowly I moved it in and out feeling it grow in the warmth of my mouth. I played with his balls as I sucked the shaft. Quickening my pace, I teased him by slowing. While his eyes were closed I had finished unbuttoning my shirt and removed my bra. Spreading his legs a little wider I slid closer to him and dangled my breasts around his cock.

Unhurriedly I let them settle around him and the wet from my mouth let his dick slide easily between my breasts. I tipped my head down and as I swept down I flicked the head of his cock with my tongue and slid back up. I moved up and down sliding the thick member between my tits. I slowed as he reached between my legs and felt the wetness there.

"God Angel," His said as he stood me up and slid his hand higher up my skirt. He kissed me with passion and I felt the heat from his body. " I need this so bad," he murmured.

His fingers slid into my fold and he flicked my clit with his thumb with perfection. He did things with his fingers that I had never felt before. His fingers alone could make me come again and again and I didn't want him to stop. My breathing was heavy and I moaned through my teeth as he withdrew. He turned my around to face the chair and hiked up my skirt above my waist.

He grabbed my waist and spread my legs apart with his foot and positioned himself between me. At the moment of penetration the feel of his cock sent shivers through my body and a river to start. He slid easily in and out bracing himself on the soft arms of the chair. He leaned back and dicked me at a steep angle.

The feeling was so intense that I felt I would die from the pleasure. I squeezed my pussy around his dick to create a heated friction. Faster he went with his cock sliding it in and out making me scream his name over and over. Deeper he pushed making me feel like his cock was in my mouth. I could tell he was going to cum and I wanted it in my mouth.

At the point he was going to blow I turned quickly and feel to my knees. I took his cock in my mouth and sucked the tip. I felt him tighten and opened my mouth slightly. The white cum shoot into my mouth and some dribbled from my lip. I swallowed and licked the remaining off his shaft and licked my lips. I smiled up at him as kissed the head again and stood up. No sooner had I re-buttoned my shirt then we heard the front door open.

My mother's voice rang out with a loud hello, and Josh and I struggled to quickly right ourselves before going downstairs. It wasn't time yet for anyone to know of the affair Josh and I had.

The following day, a small funeral was held for Emily and Josh's unborn baby. It was only family and close friends and being apart of a community that everyone knew everyone, small was an unrealistic estimate.

The day was warm with only a few clouds scattered about. Johanna and I stood in the foyer waiting for my mother to finish putting in her earrings and my father was fixing his tie.

"Are you sure its okay for me to go?" Johanna asked nervously. "I mean, I don't really even know her."

"Jo, I am sure it won't matter. And besides, you do know here. Remember when we visited the first time? You talked to her for 3 hours."

"I know, it's just so personal now." She sighed and clutched her little black purse to her side. My parents descended the stairs and Brian was already in the car waiting. It was truly a family affair.

The car ride was silent, each of us reflecting in our own way. My mother sniffled in the front seat and my father patted her knee.

The cemetery was filled with mourners and it was a sea of black; black cars, black suites, black dresses. A little white tent was placed over a small gravesite where 2 seats held a red faced Emily and a stern-faced Josh. I knew he was miserable, but I also knew he wouldn't show it. He saw my family and offered me a smile. We had discussed that no interaction could take place while we were there for the simple fact that it wouldn't look right.

I wanted desperately to wrap my arms around Josh and comfort him, but I would have to wait until later when we were alone. I sighed. We moved closer to the others who were standing around talking softly and each taking a turn patting Emily's shoulder and shaking Josh's hand. Emily's parents were standing behind her and Josh's parents behind him.

When we got close enough to the seated couple to pat the shoulder and shake the hand, I was again hit with a sense of familiarity with the man who was standing behind Emily. It dawned on me that it was the man I had seen at the hospital as I was leaving. He was the man who held the elevator door for me.

The ceremony was short and sweet and beautiful as a funeral for an infant can be. A short time later we were back in the car and headed home. I relaxed my head against the back of the seat and closed my eyes. It had been a crazy week and although I wasn't used to the whole family togetherness thing, I was glad to be home.

I was starting to drift asleep when a though crossed my mind that jarred me completely bolt upright. My eyes widened with a realization of something that had been hiding below the line of my psyche. Several moments later I relaxed enough to recline against the seat. I needed to talk to josh.

I debated calling Josh the minute I walked in the door and then thought better of it. I knew that Emily was in a delicate position and even though I knew Josh would love to hear from me I would wait for his call.

It wasn't until almost 11 when he did finally call. I picked up on the first ring.
"Hello?" I said into the receiver.

"Hey Angel," Josh said lightly. "How are you?"

"I'm good." I said. "Listen, I have to talk to you. Can you come over here?"

"Sure. What's up?"

"I have something interesting to tell you. Something to do with Emily. Well, not really Emily, but with her father." I heard Josh breathing.

"I'll be right there." He said and hung up.

Fifteen minutes later I saw his headlight flash onto my street and he turned them off before pulling into the drive. I met him at the door and we walked to the basement.

Before I could say a word, Josh pulled me into his arms and kissed my face, my mouth, and my nose. He splayed his hands over my ass and lifted me gently onto the couch and leaned in for another deep kiss. I pushed him away before my body started responding and me mind checked out.

"Listen, Josh." I said pushing his hands away. "I wanted to tell you something."

"Mmm? What's that?" He asked nosing his face against my neck.

"About Emily's dad." I paused and wiggled out of Josh's grip and stood next to the chair as Josh sighed and sat down.

"What Angel?" he asked shrugging his shoulders. "What do you know?"

"I know Emily's dad." Josh looked confused.

"How do you know him? I didn't think you did."

"I didn't think so either." I said. "But I knew him before today. I knew him in Baltimore." Josh stared at me and blinked his eyes.

"You mean..." He stopped and swallowed, his adams apple bobbing in his dry throat. "You mean youfucked him?" I was quite for a second, trying to figure out how to respond.

"It was a guy. It was a man who was paying me to service him. It was money to pay my pimp and my rent." I began to cry softly. "I didn't know Josh! How was I supposed to know?"

Josh stood, running his fingers through his hair and cussed softly under his breath. His eyes had turned dark and for a second I was afraid he might explode.

"You're right. You're right." He said, coming nearer to me with his arms opened. "I know you didn't know. But fuck Angel, this makes things complicated!"

"No it doesn't!" I said looking into his eyes. "Don't you see, this makes it easier!"

"How in the world do you think that?" He asked.

"You said that Emily's father would throw a fit if you tried to divorce his daughter. Not to mention probably fire you from your job." I paused for a breath. "Don't you see? We have something on him. You'll tell him you know he was in Baltimore with a hooker and if he doesn't want anyone to know, he better agree to a divorce and let you keep your job."

"What makes you think he won't tell everyone then that you're a hooker?"

"He won't!" I said. "He knows that if he does that he will still get shafted. He is a very predominate figure around here. He wouldn't jeopardize that." Josh thought about it for a minute and then smiled.

"I think you might be right." He said. "I think that might work." He kissed me hard and headed towards the stairs. "I'll call you tomorrow." He was gone in a second and for once I thought everything seemed to be going the right way.

The next day Josh made his way into the tall office building at 1 South Bend. He was nervously tapping his finger against the briefcase he held in his left hand. He was on the way to see his father in law at the top floor.

When he got off the elevator the secretary Polly greeted him with a large smile.

"Hi Josh!" she said. And then more sullenly asked, "How is everything?"

"As well as can be expected." Josh said forcing a smile. He wanted to get this over with. "Is he in?"

"Sure is. Said he was expecting you. Go right in." Polly said standing. "Can I get you anything to drink?"

"No thanks, Polly." Josh said. "We shouldn't be too long." He gave her a wink and stepped inside the frosted glass doors.

"Josh!" Richard said from the big mahogany desk. "I hope this won't take too long, The McLean's are waiting in office 2, and it would mean a lot to the firm to get them as clients."

"I understand Richard." Josh said, sitting across from the desk. "So, let me get to the point."

"Uh-oh." Richard said half jokingly. "You sound serious."

"Well, it sorta is serious." Josh drummed his fingers on the briefcase. He didn't know where to start.

"Does this have something to do with Emily?" Richard asked, suddenly concerned.

"Well, yes and no." Josh cleared his throat. "I want a divorce from Emily and I want to retain my position here with the option to be promoted as we had previously discussed when I was hired. Meaning when you retire in 8 years I get your job." Richard turned bright red in face and slammed his fist onto the desk.

"Who the hell are you to tell me what you are going to do to my daughter and to my company? No such thing will happen! No way, no how!" Richard began beating the desk again. "This will not happen."

Josh winced with each slam of the older mans hand. "Careful Richard, you don't want to have a stroke."

"You better explain yourself!" Richard demanded. "And it better be good, because by god, you will not get adivorce from Emily and you certainly will not have control of this company if you do so!"

"Richard, its really quite simple." Josh paused. "I'm going to blackmail you." Richard's face reddened a deeper shade and his eyes budged from his head.

"What the fuck are you talking about?" He shouted.

"Richard, I know some things that I am sure you would like to keep quite around this town." Josh paused. "And in order for me to keep quite about it, you will allow me to divorce Emily and as I said before, when you retire I take over around here."

"This is preposterous! I have nothing to hide!"

"I disagree." Josh said. "Does Baltimore hookers ring any bells for you?" Just as Richard sat hard into his chair, Polly came on over the intercom.

"Mr. Sherman? Is everything all right?" she asked. Richard stared dumbly at Josh for a second. Polly asked again, "Are you alright sir?"

"Yes - yes, I'm fine Polly. Please see to the McLean's in office 2. See if they need some coffee and tell them I will be with them shortly."
