We picked up Alex's things that evening. While Alex loaded my pick-up, Mrs. Boyd asked me, "You will take good care of Alex, won't you?"
"Yes, Mrs. Boyd. I will. She doesn't know it yet, but if she still wants to, she will still be going to college this fall."
Mrs. Boyd then kissed my cheek, and said, "I'm glad Alex has found someone like you to care for her. She has had such a hard time during her teens. God bless."
