Finally making it to my bed, I dropped across it exhausted, but thrilled by the events of the night. When I awoke later that afternoon, I was surprised and pleased to discover a piece of thin seaweed hanging around my neck. It ran through a small disk about half an inch in diameter. The afternoon sun gleamed brilliantly off the iridescent deep-blue disk. Apparently Mia had slipped the seaweed necklace around my neck when she kissed me goodbye. The disk was one of her gorgeous scales.
I prayed the scale was a gift of her love and her promise to return, instead of a token in remembrance of our one wonderful night of bliss together.
