LongWood Fourth Hunt Day 05-06

"Janet would you mind if'n I stayed as daytime whore in your room?" Look over at her plum confused, she seem happy with the Apache.

"You still no like?" Atmaja smiles at me.

"Do like, Dan is asking if he want to deputy. Since he would be in town all day Dan suggest I do same."

"You would have enough for him?"

"Would, being whore is easy and he no daily." Snort and giggle.

"No see wrong with, allow listen to book say. Mind when time right for babe, reckon he care you have his babe."

"How will I know when that is?"

"Thirteen day after bleeding time stop. Always stop whore then and only Dan for four days."

"You also have Dan every day." Nod and smile.

"Yes."

"Since I won't everyday do I stop at thirteen days?"

"Best ask Mr. Gladstone. He expert on, all know is when have plenty roll get with child."

Atmaja nods and we don't talk for a spell. Just ride on letting the day progress, at some point Atmaja go back with her man and Dan move up. Look at Dan but he no seem want to speak on thing so go back to minding what we pass. Shadow start get long so look at Dan, he notice after pinto snort and toss head, he spy out a good camp.

"We're riding on through the night. Train is going to be at the next town in the morning and I'd rather not ride all the way back." Nod and go back to minding what we pass when thought come.

"Charlie told about marshal from Wyatt, but Dave is go." Dan nods and looks over at me.

"Wyatt is a duly appointed deputy already. Remember when he came through he was on the way to the town from a drive. Reckon on he was told by the new county or his brother Virgil."

"Why Virgil know?" Dan snorts.

"Virgil has been a sheriff for a spell now."

"How you know?"

"I know because it comes in the mail. Get reports on who is sheriff, deputy, or marshal all over just in case one passes through on a hunt." Nod and let that be for a spell when something else occurs to me.

"Why would a sheriff be told about a new county looking for marshal?"

"After a spell any lawmen will be asked if they want to go someplace new. Usual is to a new town or county forming that wants some law. They want a lawmen who has been doing for a spell so they know what to do. Tough sheriff will be asked to go a place that had a sheriff and all afraid to take up the badge after he was shot down."

"So sheriff just as dangerous as robber?" Dan is silent for a spell then nods and shrugs.

"In a way, not normal to be shot down. Honest most sheriff retire and run a saloon or store."

"Reckon saloon be best, could still whore."

Dan snorts then Gwen come up to hand out the closed wrap tortilla. Take one and smile at Gwen then fall to on the vittles. Dan does same and we just ride on for a good long spell. Next town is even come in view a little when I think I best speak on one thing.

"Dan, will speak once at theater." Dan looks over at me and snorts.

"Honest I figured you would refuse. Once is better than none."

"Dave say should get bowling alley."

"Bowling?" Look over at Dan and giggle.

"Is bit like game learned with tribe. No same so will do, reckon on different rule at each one so we learn when get one."

"Alright but what is it?"

"As Dave explain get ball, roll at pin. Get point for pin you knock over, say there are team of three, each get ball, roll at pin."

"Hall I play at in Kansas City has teams of four." We look at Martin then Dan look at me.

"No same as game know." Dan snorts and shrugs.

"We can hold Gus at Longwood and get a letter written. Reckon on send out a telegram as well."

"Dan make sure say honest game, we no let law breaker in to town." Martin snorts.

"You have a faro table."

Dan start laugh so am laugh with. Faro is suppose to be cheat at though no one explain how cheat. Don may know just no say to me and all who do play joke about how he cheats. When am asked to deal for Don the players comment on how they won't be cheated now. No understand this, game itself is simple at least.

Course also am injun so seem all expect me cheat. Sometimes hear comment about injun giver, as in give something then take back. Never do this, no injun should we do trade and walk away happy or at least satisfied. Round eye make fun of stupid injun trading island for glass beads, joke on round eye, land no own so any payment for land is only good for injun.

Have explain, left the round eye confused. Not a good mind on his head, he decide that since am injun should shut trap and give him roll. Dan arrest for this, for his safety since was all set to break the fella. Next thing know Dan is nudging.

"Janet are you there?" Look over at Dan then notice town close.

"Did I get some shut eye?" Dan nods.

"You did, stay with us we are almost there and can stop in the saloon."

"Send telegraph Dan, get Sally and Mr. Johnson to meet train."

"After we have vittles, mind on it, you said Gus turned the train around then had vittles."

"No always Gus." Dan snorts.

"Will be Gus, wasn't Gus the last time. Why don't you talk to him?"

"He no speak." Dan just look so toss hands up. "Ask how ride was get fine."

"You are not much better." Shoot some eye daggers.

"Dan say more than fine."

Dan look at me then urge horse farther over. Gwen speed up to between Dan and me with grin so reckon she heard. Almost in town now and Gwen look over at me.

"Dan tell you not while carry a babe?" Just look at Gwen moment then shake head.

"While carry Balik was no real call for naught but whore."

"Martin said that to me." Sigh and toss up hands while we do reach town.

"With tribe there was no like that. With babe or no all gals helped much could." Gwen snorts and shakes her head.

"Come on Janet, you are mad at Dan and the best remedy of that is saying bad things he's done."

"This help?" Gwen nods and grins.

"Plenty of gals around where we are staying so I get with them and we talk about the bad things our husband did. We have fun and laugh." Reach saloon so tie off horse, give all licorice, run low but go home now so no real concern.

Go in saloon and most empty aside a few sleep in chair or collapse to floor. Same barkeep as last time who does cross on chest when notice us. Gwen sit next to when we go up to the bar, Dan and Martin sit together next to Gwen. Barkeep come over and just look a short spell.

"Are you hunting again?" Shake head and smile.

"Just finished, chased down bunch of south soldier robbing and killing. Have milk?" Cocks head side to ponder then shake it.

"Don't get much and run through it over the morning. Get plenty of gals and kids come in then. You both want water?" I nod then Gwen shake head.

"Make up seven glasses of water, got more injun than just Janet." Barkeep nods and heads for the pump. "So Janet what is the worst thing Dan has done?" Look at Gwen and ponder for a spell, take so long get glass of water afore come to me.

"Well Dan came to as husband at outhouse." Barkeep is filling glasses of whiskey right near and almost drop bottle cause he laugh.

"Oh my, that is bad." Gwen say then cover mouth on account she is laugh. "Was it good at least?" She ask once stop laugh.

"Dan always good roll. Smell bad but good roll aside." Barkeep is laugh hard along with most all awake, Dan even is laugh though red faced.

"What else has he done?" Barkeep ask this time.

"Well that so far only no so good." Gwen nudges me.

"Come on Janet share some more on things Dan does that you are not happy with."

"Well first time get Dan to go bounty camp night he no do right. Step on twig keep go so dislodge rock, this hit other rock and make big racket. Wake bounty up yelling out how he got pistol and like. Least got to walk behind and put pistol to back." Gwen snort, look at Martin then sigh.

"Glad we don't have to do that, just yell out marshal." Martin rolls his eyes but no say anything.

"There has to be more, you have done so many bounties." Look at barkeep and sigh.

"Honest no like remember most on account slaughter." Gwen nudges me.

"Don't share the slaughter, tell us about the fool things you have seen." Bat cave is first that come so share that and have all laugh, seem woke many of the pass out fellas.

"Aside that is greenhorn bounties. Have fun with those, scare of bear and wolf come camp so all nervous. We string in tree then have roll and sleep. Usual say to them no make noise or bring bear, sometime say wolf instead." Plenty of chuckling around to that, more fella than figure are in saloon now.

"That worked?" Nod and smile.

"Yes, usual take week or so get back. Whole time we string in tree and leave trembling until morning. Reckon on sleep some account they no sleep while ride."

"Janet didn't help, kept talking about vengeful spirits of the land being all around." Toss up my hands.

"Dan there are vengeful spirits. No usual to chase down greenhorn round eye. Still have vengeful spirits."

"So you told him about these spirits to keep him scared?" Nod and grin.

"Was fun, no give roll most greenhorn so need something keep mind off." Dan snorts.

"You still asked often, course you also kept saying the spirits were near and wanted a sacrifice." The fellas are laughing now and crowding around to hear.

"Janet here sit on the bar so they can hear you better." Gwen nods when look at so hop up on stool then turn around to sit on bar.

"This no funny, stupid. Ride up on gang that has gone in rock quarry. So go above, two gang set up watch above that is easy take care of." Oddly enough the fellas are chuckling.

"How many gangs have you found in a quarry?"

"Five so far." Dan shakes his head.

"We have found six in a quarry."

"Dan that no gang."

"Janet we got two bounties out of them."

"That make gang?" Everybody is nodding and chuckling.

"What happened?" Look at Dan to get nod so sigh.

"We were after different bounty so just riding along. No know gang was in quarry, just stop where did cause was time to camp. Vittles were ready so sit around fire filling bowls when fella appear out of ground. He shoot so pull pistol and shoot back, he fall back in quarry. Find out when go look since was odd, fella appear and shoot then no there. Get to edge of quarry and rest shoot, luck thing grabbed up rifle so shoot back."

"How many where there?" Ponder on moment.

"Small gang, only six dead. Least was only day shy of town." Dan snorts and shakes his head.

"Could not verify them there, had to go two towns over to do that. Sheriff there took care of that for half the bounty money."

"How much was the bounty?"

"Fifty and seventy five. Agreed to only take sixty of the bounty since sheriff got them there and verified. Riding about with the dead and Janet is not much fun, she can't sleep worth spit." Fellas are chuckling.

"Why not?" Dan look at me so am telling.

"Spirit of dead do become vengeful spirit some, only way to avoid is bury when find. No allow bury and reckon Great Spirit no take round eye. Mean take around on horse for long ways."

"Why wouldn't he take us white folk?"

"Cause you no follow. Not sure wish follow, round eye follow their god when feel like." Plenty snort to that.

"Reckon she has a point, best share with preacher." Plenty of chuckle to go around here.

Dan lean over to nudge when hear train whistle for slow. Train always whistle little extra when fixing to stop so make for good alarm if you no hear earlier.

"Janet go on and talk to Gus."

Nod and hop down then head for train, easy find no stop quite yet. Engineer no notice yet on account still stop. Seem for stop he stay in front section of train so no see. Get some snorts and whistle out of train then big long sigh of vent pressure. Then I head for front to speak to Gus if that is him up there.

Folk are getting off and I find a bit of curious in me so hop up. Head in to the section where Gus at when he is on train. Is not so interest, have fire pit open so fair light and see a round bit of metal on wall. Couple levers sticking out of floor and two men, this is different usual only have one. One is Gus can see already, though both are look at something.

"Gus who is this?" Gus stand up right quick and look at then sigh and slump little.

"Janet you scared me, been hearing about train getting robbed by fella climb up in here with and making stop." Grin and put hands up like hold pistols.

"Stealing train, get home to Balik." Gus snorts and shakes his head.

"Not like that, make the engineer stop the train then have plenty of folk climb on and rob whole train." Frown big at that.

"So you have guard?" Gus shakes his head.

"This is Stewart, I'm teaching him how to do this. This train is felt to be safe from that, on account got you and a reservation of Apache on the route. What are you doing way over here?"

"Had a bounty, mess of south soldier doing rob and kilt folks. You get pistol?" Gus does cross on chest then shakes his head.

"Gave me a rifle in case notice a fella riding to catch and climb on." Reckon that is good so may as well learn on the train with Stewart.

"Well on account waiting for train go back show me how work." Gus snorts.

"Stewart can do that, let me see if he does know the right." Stewart roll eyes and I giggle.

Stewart then teaches me about the train. Got two meter on train, one to show temperature on water and one for the pressure. One of the lever is for brake, to slow down train with, Gus had fun explaining what brake mean. Other lever is for desired speed, which no do that. Instead of set lever to speed of train like sound, lever set pressure allowed, more lever move more pressure so go faster.

All interesting then get to help move train to turn around. This more interesting than train on account turn around is by way of a circle that turn. We go down track, stop and let some of the crew off to crank the circle. Have help of a horse on this then we go over circle down a length of track, once far enough we stop and wait for circle to crank again.

Train go in reverse now to go down a different track again. Once circle crank around one more time, train go back on track it came down to get here. Gus is speak on how train used to have two front so can go backwards faster. This was afore they figure how to do the circle, he call those engineering marvels.

Have to agree, get circle of land to spin like that must be hard work. Gus is chuckling about that, the circle is metal and covered in dirt to keep from rust. Then we go have vittles and I get to tell Dan all about it. Train home is perfectly fine no call on me talk more so just read the novel Dan bought for me.

Novel he bought on a fella named Wild Bill, rather interesting though he do sheriff. So in way he just like Dan. Course he also claim to kill injun so no sure like him. Seem a nice enough fella in the novel at least. Finally we are back at Longwood and I'm dashing out to see Balik, Sally and Mr. Johnson are there as well.

"Janet why did we have to meet the train?" Look over at Mr. Johnson and wink.

"Need give something do." Sally snorts and is giggling, Mr. Johnson snorts and grins.

"Has to be something else." Nod and switch breast with Balik.

"Seem town is seen as safe. No stay unless make powerful tough break law." Dan comes over finally and puts his arms around me.

"We figured on putting up street lights, may need pave the streets afore that. Also going to hire more Apache, got one out of the three ride along with. Reckon couple more be enough for now, to afford we reckon adding a gambling hall and theater be in order." Sally ponder moment then nod.

"I like it, have more than can gamble in saloon often and no more room for tables." Mr. Johnson is smile over this.

"Theater would make us more of a proper town so would have more families move here."

"Bowling hall, Dave was teach on afore we ride to catch train." Sally snorts.

"He finally came back to play some faro, whole two games then left with Charlie." Nod and sigh.

"Dave and Charlie go be county marshal at suppose Dodge City, all know is area lawless so reckon they no have easy."

"Reckon I got a few letters to write on this. Sally do you want to do up the gambling hall?" Sally look at Mr. Johnson then shrugs.

"Advertise that we are looking for people to do gambling hall and theater. Like as not get a prospective owner. If'n not reckon we can find the monies to get the building, after that is simple to have enough for salary."

"Bowling hall." Mr. Johnson look at me and nod.

"Bowling hall as well, reckon we can do with another eatery. Street lights though, that will require trading letters a time or two." We watch Mr. Johnson walk for Dentistry moment then Dan nudge me.

"Janet, go talk to David. You know what sort of knives our deputies would want." Balik fall sleep so nice but one thing.

"Dan you mean make up brace of special throw knife?" Sally and Dan are gape at me now so kick Dan.

"Not really what I was thinking of but if they can throw a knife."

"Dan all injun taught, tomahawk only give to warrior, afore make warrior we no stay in teepee. Knife to all so can do what wish and have weapon."

Dan sigh then take Balik and hand new knife. Mind on need get knife adjust for hand I walk for the stable, David have place behind. Luck find, David is set up the fire to work metal now.

"David need favor." He look over at and smile.

"Let me guess, need to thin the handle for you hand." Look at knife then nod.

"Yes, good scary knife. Also we get more Apache deputy and wish outfit with brace of throw knife."

"Do you want handle on them or a true throw knife?" Ponder moment then shrug.

"No sure, do you have true throw knife?" David shakes his head then put up hand and dash to retrieve a mess of paper.

"I got a drawing of a design in here somewhere." He say while go through paper afore pulling one out. "Here we go, this is a true throwing knife. No other use for these."

Get to look at drawing and David is right. No handle to these, is simply a bit of rounded metal then blade. Said blade is long and rather thick, two blade on so reckon work fine if need to kill a fella.

"These perfectly fine, reckon can make a brace for me thinner?"

"Reckon can do all thinner, these are only good about thirty feet. That far is questionable according to what I have read. Know sheriff is close work but may as well outfit for across town throw like you want."

"Thank you David, Dan no say how much pay." David snort and wave his hand.

"No worries, I'm not sure how much these will cost, need to do up a test model, once I have that I can start quoting price." Nod then stomach rumble, earn me a snort. "Go on and have some vittles, I'm doing up horseshoes for the next day or two then I can get to work on the knives."

Head on out of stable then head for saloon and find Dan wait for at the intersection. Go right on up to Dan to get pick up and kiss. Right wonderful kiss my husband lay on me and find desire to give him roll. Dan though put back on ground and take hand to lead for gun store. Not that we go to gun store, we go past to the eatery they was still build when we left.

Building is quite nice, dark molding as Dan call with white walls. Big windows in front let see in and see Chun standing at big counter. Big door behind Chun, would reckon is where the icebox is to store the ice cream. Then we go in to get big smile from Chun. I head for Chun to look at what in counter and find ice cream.

"Ice cream?" Chun snorts and nods.

"Needed to make sure we could and have sold some already. Not popular at moment but another month and it will stop being cold."

"What else make?" Chun snort and point where Dan wait.

"Go sit with Dan, we have menus."

Oh this is exciting so go join Dan then have a fella show us to a table. He then hand over two menu and stand right there. Look over menu and honest all sound sweet. There are sundae that Amanda has made afore, hand pie, ice cream on a cone and then regular pie. Even have cake so know Dan like this eatery just all sound sweet and no like.
