Matthew and Camille Ch. 03abyinnocent_angel©
**Sorry that I am a little late on when I said I'd post but school happened. Sorry for any typos, I see that I missed a few in the other chapters. Another thing, there will be a few inconsistencies in this chapter because there were some things that I wanted to change or adjust in the story that just seem a little better to me. They won't be major, and some may barely be noticed but I just wanted to let you guys know that I am aware that a very few minor details don't match with what was covered in chapter one. Ex. Hair styles, eye colors, etc. I hope that you guys like it and if not let me know. **
"Gimme the phone, Ellie!" Camille yelled as she chased her sister around her apartment.
"I'm not giving you the damn phone, Cammie," Danielle Flynn said over her shoulder as she dodged her little sister yet again.
"I need it," Camille shot back as she chased Danielle around the sofa.
Danielle ran down the hall toward Camille's bedroom. "You're not canceling your date!"
"But I don't want to go," Camille said as she cornered Danielle in the bedroom. "Now," she said brushing stray hairs from her face, "give me the phone."
Danielle held up her hand as Camille advanced toward her. "Wait, wait, just tell me why you want to cancel your date when you've been on cloud nine since you called me this afternoon."
Camille crossed her arms over her chest, looking away from her sister. "Because," she said simply, not wanting to admit that reality had struck her, and struck her hard. She'd finally realized that there was no way Matt actually wanted to go out with her. The two were as different as can be when it came to looks. Matt was GQ while she was Lane Bryant. She didn't think herself unattractive, just, plain, especially standing next to him.
Camille glanced at her sister, feeling a sting as she realized that Danielle never had that problem, nor would she ever truly understand how Camille felt. Danielle was taller and thinner than Camille with model good looks. She was perfect in the eyes of all who saw her, yet she never let it go to her head, opting to teach second grade rather than surround herself with people overly obsessed with looks and body. Most times she chose jeans and a t-shirt over a skirt and blouse on any given day, including today, and still managed to look as if she were headed to a photo shoot.
Standing just under six feet tall, she towered over most woman, Camille included, and some men. Her straight black hair, which was cut to a similar length as Camille's was almost always pulled back away from her face. Her skin was slightly darker than Camille's, and like her sister, she had nearly flawless skin, acne thankfully having bypassed them both. But even that, Camille knew, didn't make them the same.
After the cloud of Matt had cleared from her head, she knew that there was no chance of him actually wanting to pursue a relationship with her. She also knew that they wouldn't make it past their first date. Her sense of self-preservation just wouldn't allow her to be open to that type of disappointment.
"That's not a reason," Danielle stated pulling Camille out of her reverie. She stuffed Camille's cell phone in her back pocket while she waited for her sister to answer.
"Yeah, it is. It's enough reason for me, now give me my phone."
"I'm not--," Danielle stopped when she and Camille heard the doorbell ring.
A confused look crossed Camille's face. "Who the heck is that? Matt's not supposed to be here for like two hours."
Danielle looked at her sister slyly before darting out of the room.
"Hey!" Camille called out as she chased Danielle again.
Camille reached the living room just as Amy stepped through the door lugging what looked like shopping bags in with her.
"What are you doing here?"
Amy paused giving Camille an artificial look of offense. "Well, it's great to see you too, friend."
"Did you get the stuff?" Danielle asked Amy, ignoring their exchange.
"Yeah, I did. Don't you see all this crap?" Amy asked holding up the bags, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Wait," Camille said turning to Danielle, "you knew she was coming over?"
"Yeah, so?" Danielle answered briefly glancing at Camille before turning back to Amy. "Come on, lets see it."
Camille watched as the two other women headed back to her bedroom. "What the crap is going on?" Camille muttered as she followed her sister and her friend, who also happened to be friends, back to her bedroom.
When she stepped into her bedroom, Camille saw Amy and Danielle removing articles of clothing from the shopping bags, excitedly chattering about how great Camille would look for her date.
"I think she should wear the slacks and the grey ruffle top," Amy said, spreading said combination on the bed. "With the ballerina flats."
"I told you that I'm not going," Camille said, to no avail because the two continued to speak as if she weren't in the room.
"I think the red v-neck and the black skirt," Danielle said throwing her selection over Amy's. "You know, she should show off her legs, and didn't you say this guy's hella tall? So I say go with the black Mary Jane heels." She looked at Amy who had taken a moment to consider what Danielle had just said.
"Ellie, Amy," Camille interrupted one more time, "are you listening? I said I'm not going."
To her surprise, they both turned to look at her. "Of course you are." Amy said then turned back to Danielle, almost dismissing Camille. "You know, you have a point," she said to Danielle. "I mean we are trying to get her laid."
"Excuse me," Camille said, stepping closer to the pair.
Amy and Danielle both laughed as they turned to look at her. "Oh, come on baby sister. She's just kidding."
"Maybe. Come on and take your pick," Amy said dragging Camille to the bed to look at the clothes.
"What'd you guys do? Sneak into my closet to check my sizes then go shopping for me?" She asked unnecessarily, spotting the still attached price tags.
"Yeah," Danielle answered without hesitation. "I knew you'd play the, 'but I don't have anything to wear,' card, so we planned ahead," she said flashing an innocent smile at her sister.
Camille looked at them both and, with a sigh of resignation said, "Fine, the slacks and the red shirt."
"No," the other two said in unison.
"What the heck? Didn't you just tell me to choose?"
"Yeah," Danielle said, "didn't you hear me before? You have to show off your legs, so pick the skirt."
Camille rolled her eyes, "Whatever." She looked at her watch. Matt was going to be there soon, and since neither of them would let her call to cancel, she needed to get ready.
"I'll take care of your hair, just go get showered and make sure to put on some sexy undies and some finger-licking perfume."
Camille shook her head as she headed for her bathroom. "Whatever."
Forty-five minutes later, Camille sat on the covered toilet seat as Danielle flat-ironed her hair. She'd showered, and shaved, then had been plucked, polished, and powdered for nearly an hour. Now Danielle worked to remove any frizz or curliness from her hair."
"You're not done yet?" She questioned impatiently as Amy put on the final coat of "Red Seduction" nail polish that perfectly matched her shirt.
"Hush," Amy said blowing on Camille's fingertips. "You'll thank us later."
"Oh, when? While I'm getting laid?" She asked sarcastically.
Danielle stopped to meet Camille's eyes. "Exactly."
Camille huffed as she rolled her eyes again. She'd wouldn't admit it to the pair, but she had really started to look forward to going out with Matt. All of the pampering she'd received from Amy and Ellie slowly and steadily made her more eager to see him and for him to see her.
The clothes Amy had picked up all looked great and all in some way accentuated what Amy referred to as her "assets".
"Okay," Danielle said after another few minutes. "I'm done. Let's get you dressed."
Camille stood and turned to look in the mirror. Her hair was flowing in thick dark waves around her shoulders thanks to Danielle. Camille turned back to her sister, "Thanks," she said, "you guys are great."
"We know this already," Amy said smiling. "Now go put on some clothes before this guy--," they all turned as they heard the doorbell ring, "gets here," she shrugged, "oh, well."
"God, he's here," Camille said her voice rising slightly. "What the crap he's not suppose to be here yet."
"Calm down, girl, he's here now" Danielle said before turning to Amy. "Ames you get the door, stall for a minute, while we finish up."
"Gotcha chief," Amy said saluting Danielle before walking out of the room.
Danielle turned back to Camille who had yet to move. "Would you go get dressed, already? You can only keep him waiting so long before he loses interest, Cammie. Go."
Camille did as she was told after Danielle actually shoved her back into the bathroom with the bundle of clothes in her hands. Danielle shook her head. "God help my little sister," she said, eyes to the ceiling, before heading into the living room.
Matthew sat in Camille's living room in a chair across from the sofa on which the two women he'd met at the door sat. An Asian woman, who'd introduced herself as Amy and a black woman, Danielle, who'd said that she was Camille's older sister. Matt couldn't help but note, as he sat patiently under their scrutinizing gazes, that the two sisters looked nothing alike.
"So, Matt," Amy started, leaning back on the sofa, "what type of law is it that practice?"
Matt opened his mouth to answer but was immediately cut off as more questions were fired at him in rapid succession by each woman alternately.
"Which firm do you work for?"
"Do you have any family?"
"Do you have a psycho ex that my sister needs to watch out for?"
"What's your full name?"
"We're going to need some prints from you if you don't mind--"
"Hey, Benson, Stabler," All eyes in the room shifted to the living room doorway where Camille stood, a look of annoyance on her face. "Can we save the Law and Order interrogation for someone who isn't my guest?" She asked Amy and Danielle through clinched teeth. The pair at least had the decency to look guilty as they both mouthed apologies.
So caught up was she in chastising Amy and Danielle, Camille hadn't noticed that Matt had stood and made his way over to her. She nearly jumped as he placed a possessive hand on her hip and pulled her body into his.
"You look beautiful," he whispered into her neck.
Her breathing hitched as she felt him brush her hair aside to place a warm kiss on her neck. "Th-thanks," she stammered nervously.
Matthew smiled to himself and stepped away looking at himself. "What, do I not look good?"
Camille's eyes darted up to his, then away, embarrassed. "Well, I'm sorry, you look great, I
Matthew gave a low rumble of laughter as he put a finger under Camille's chin to gently force her to meet his eyes. "È uno scherzo. Sweetie, I am only joking."
Camille smiled at him. "That wasn't funny."
Matt returned her smile and shrugged. "I tried." Matt lowered his head again, this time aiming for her lips. Camille held her breath as she waited for his mouth to slowly reach hers.
Camille saw Matt pause and look past her as, from some place over her shoulder, a throat was being cleared. She rolled her eyes and turned to face the forgotten Amy and Danielle. She saw the barely restrained grins on their faces. Camille crossed her arms over her chest. "What?"
"Nothing," they answered together still holding back smiles.
"We just weren't sure if you remembered that you had other company, little sister," Danielle said glancing past Camille to Matt, who had again placed a possessive hand on her hip.
"You guys, uh, are you guys actually planning on going out tonight?" Amy said clearing her throat again, "cuz if not Ellie and I can head out and give you to some--"
"We're leaving," Camille interrupted, continuing to give the women dirty looks. She turned back to Matt, her expression instantly going soft again. "I need to go get my purse and I'll be ready to go."
Matt nodded, removing his hand and placing a kiss on her cheek. Camille could see the look of amusement in his eyes as she turned and left the room. She stepped backwards through the door, making threatening gestures at Amy and Danielle behind Matt's back, causing the smiles on their faces to grow wider. "I'm going to kill you both," she mouthed just before she stepped out of sight.
She quickly grabbed her things and made her way back to the living room before Amy and Danielle had the chance to say anything else to Matt.
"Ready," he asked when she returned
Camille smiled," Yes."
Matt turned to the pair on the sofa, "Ladies, arrivederci," he said giving a small bow.
"Goodnight," Amy said waving.
"Bye you guys, have fun, lots of it, all night," Danielle said smiling at her sister who rewarded her with a glare.
"Bye," Camille said again through clinched teeth. "And get out of my house!" She yelled as Matt opened the door for her to proceed him out.
She shook her head as the laughter coming from her living room followed them halfway down the walk.
