Chapter 6: Dinner, Drinks, and New Beginings

The room was bright when the obnoxious sound of an alarm clock filled it. Guinne's hand reached from under her blanket, where she had hidden from the sunlight streaming in the window, and slapped the offending machine. She pulled the covers off of herself and stretched; her motions like a lazy cat. She then looked around the room noticing that Maria's bed was made but empty.

It was upon looking at Maria's bed that Guinne remembered the events of the previous night. Her cheeks quickly found their shade darkened to a nice red, as she pulled the blanket up over her head again. Am I gay? She wondered, peeking out from under the blanket again, and realized how silly she must look, considering nobody else was in the room.

Guinne threw the covers off of herself, standing up. She realized as she did so that she had not taken the time to put on clothes before falling asleep last night. She glanced around, spotting the towel she had worn out of the shower last night, and wrapped it around herself. The room was in disarray, well... her side was, anyway, but that was the norm. She headed to the bathroom and took a quick shower.

When the shower was finished Guinne dressed for class, pulling on jeans, a Star Wars t-shirt and pushing her feet into some sneakers. She didn't feel like doing her hair, so she took a moment to brush it out and dropped a fedora onto her head. A quick glance in the mirror told her that she looked fine for class, and so she grabbed her bag from the table and dashed off.

--

Maria sat staring at the door to her room, she knew that Guinne should be in class, but she couldn't make herself go inside. She had been sitting out here for nearly an hour now, it was early afternoon. She'd already gone out to lunch to avoid coming home and now she sat in the public area, wondering if Guinne was in there.

She was going to have to risk it, it was her room too and she couldn't live her life in fear of her roommate. They were going to have to work out what happened last night, or ignore it. Maria wasn't sure which she'd prefer, though she knew that if the opportunity was there, she wouldn't mind some repeats and advancements of last night's events. But she did know Guinne had recently started seeing some guy from her past as well, and while Guinne wasn't a 'slut' she did tend to not go very long without a boyfriend.

Maria sighed and finally made herself climb off from the chair she sat in, throwing her bag over her shoulder and tucking her books under one arm. She unlocked the door to their room and stepped inside, shutting it behind her before she even really looked in. No Guinne. Maria let out a sigh of relief and moved to sit down at her computer. There was a window flashing at the bottom of the screen and she clicked on it, an IM window popped open.

Guinne4u> Hey are you there? I'm in class, wanted to talk.

Guinne4u> Avoiding me or not back from class yet? I know your class got out like an hour ago.

The messages were a few minutes old and Guinne was still logged in, probably on her laptop in class. Maria sucked her bottom lip between her teeth and chewed on it. Should I answer? Do I want to talk to her? I do, but I'm worried... She closed her eyes as she thought about it and then, after almost a full minute of debating it, she opened her eyes and placed her fingers on the keyboard.

SportyGG> I went out to lunch after class, what's up?

Guinne4u> Are we ok?

SportyGG> I think so.

Guinne4u> I think we need to talk tonight, I have classes for 2 more hours, will you be home?

SportyGG> I can be, I don't think I have any plans, though I was pondering a movie or something.

Guinne4u> Why don't you go rent something and we can hang out, and watch it? I know my TV isn't as big as the one in the commons, but we can talk as well.

SportyGG> Alright, I will go grab something then. c u then.

Guinne4u> later!

Maria closed the window, a faint smile on her lips. Do I have a date with Guinne tonight? she wondered, as she opened up her email, and began to do her normal computer stuff.

--

Work was going well today for Art, his boss had really liked the design he'd done on his latest project, June had been flirting with him in the lunch room and he was having a really good brain storming session about his new project as well. He had a faint smile on his face, lost in the work for the moment.

"Hey Art? Earth to Art, anyone in there?"

Art lifted his head, realizing that somebody was talking to him. "What's up Chuck? Sorry, I just got this new project and I was lost in thought. Did you need something?"

"Me and some of the others, like June, are heading out to get some drinks after work, do you want to come along?" Art knew that Chuck was expecting a no, the guy always offered, and it wasn't that Art didn't get along with his coworkers, he just wasn't a go out to the bar kind of guy.

Today was going really well though and something made Art nod his head yes, he liked June and it would be nice to talk to some girl that wasn't his sister. "Alright, sounds good. Where are you guys going? I wanna finish up this thing I'm doing right now, which might run me ten or fifteen minutes over, so I'll just meet you there."

"Jake's, uh, down on the corner," Chuck responded with a smile, "See you after you're done then."

"Alright, see ya then," Art turned back to his work as he spoke and was soon lost in it once again.

--

Guinne looked up at her professor at the front of the class, typing away notes on her laptop as she listened to the lecture. She was trying to focus, but the notes kept trailing off halfway through sentences and being just overall useless and disorderly. She had just started to get her class work back under control too, had just come to grips with the Art thing enough to get her grades up and Maria was now tossing her one hell of a curve ball.

Guinne was also pretty sure she had asked her roommate out on a date during her last class. The thing that confused her the most, though, was how excited she was at the thought of seeing Maria tonight. Perhaps not as excited as she had been about the things she had done with Art in the last few weeks, but more excited than she usually was about a date.

What's up with me? I've never even really contemplated a woman like that, and now I'm acting like a school girl over a sort-of-date with Maria? Guinne wrinkled her nose and then peered up at the professor again, who was still going on.

Guinne knew there was no way she was going to be able to concentrate on the rest of the lecture. She stood up quietly, hunkering down a bit as she slipped out of class. She'd email somebody tomorrow and get notes from them about whatever the lecture had been on.

Maria wouldn't be expecting her for another half hour and she didn't want to pop in early, thinking that might seem desperate or something. So she walked around the campus, finally sitting down on a bench in front of the library. She set her bag down next to her and dug around in the front of it for her cell phone. There was a new voice mail, so she listened to it. Her mom wanting her to come for dinner next week sometime, her brother had already agreed to go. How freaking awkward might that be? she wondered, frowning slightly and deciding that she had better talk to Art about it.

"Arthur speaking, how may I help you?"

"Hey, it's Guinne; did mom invite you to some dinner next week? She said you already agreed to go?"

"Yea, she did, I actually said I'd have to check my schedule, but you know mom. She invited you too, right? You should go, I know it might be a little ... well, strange, but mom will find it stranger if we don't go, so let's just do it. Alright?"

"Alright, I'll call her tomorrow and tell her I can come, then. How are you doing?"

"I'm fine, I'm actually kind of busy though and I have plans right after work so I don't want to stay too late, I better get back to work."

"Uh, alright. Well, talk to you later."

Guinne frowned, had her brother just blown her off? And what plans did he have tonight? He hardly ever went out. There wasn't anything she could do to find out right now though, so she shrugged and tucked her phone away. She had a few more minutes to kill, so she got out the Rowling book she'd been trying to read for weeks now.

--

Maria glanced at the clock on the wall; she was sitting in the little love seat that was the only furniture other than desks and beds in the room she shared with Guinne. It was fifteen minutes past the time the two of them had agreed to meet. Did I just get blown off? She wondered, frowning.

Guinne sat across the hall from their door, in the little shared living room area of the floor, staring at it. She'd been there for twenty minutes now, just sitting there. She had no idea what to do. She had set this up, had told Maria that they needed to talk. What was I thinking? This is stupid, we should be forgetting this happened, I'm not gay or anything. I was just so turned on last night... She closed her eyes tightly, her head coming to rest on her hands, her elbows on her knees. She let a long sigh escape her lips and then stood up. She had to go in.

The door slid open slowly and Maria started to stand, but then sat back down abruptly. She didn't want to appear overly eager. Guinne's arm appeared first and a moment later the rest of her followed.

"Hey," Guinne smiled, and wriggled her fingers a little at her roommate. She then tossed her bag onto her bed, and closed the door. It took her a moment to realize something was wrong, her eyes darting around the room. There were no piles of clothes, her bed was neatly made, all her drawers were pushed in fully, the closet was closed and nothing was sticking out of it. Even her desk was neatly organized. "What the hell did you do?" She asked, her eyes turning to Maria.

Maria couldn't help but push herself away from Guinne when their eyes met. She had hoped for happiness, appreciation, but Guinne looked openly hostile. "I, uhm, I just, I ... I thought you'd. I mean..." She stopped herself for a moment, taking a breath and gathering her thoughts, as Guinne continued to stare at her, waiting for an answer. "I wanted to do something nice for you. You've said in the past you wish you had the drive to keep your side of our room clean and I had a few hours free. I thought I'd clean it up."

Guinne frowned, sitting down on the edge of her bed. It had been a nice thought. She knew that that was the light Maria had intended it in. But it was also an invasion of her privacy; she stood up again and moved to her dresser, pulling open the drawers. Each contained neatly folded clothes. "You washed my laundry too?" She asked, incredulous. "I can't believe you did this Maria, how could you go through my stuff like this?"

Maria frowned, and her shoulders slumped. "I wanted to be helpful, I just... I had hoped you'd be happy about it."

"You're not my girlfriend," Guinne didn't know where the words had come from and she could see them physically hurt Maria. Not that either had thought that, but Maria knew deep down she wanted it. Guinne turned away from her roommate again, kneeling down next to her dresser, pulling open drawers until she found what she was looking for.

It was a shoe box, it was closed still. "Did you open this?"

"No," Maria said hastily. She hadn't, she knew that that box was private, she had no idea what was in it.

"Okay," Guinne whispered, pushing it back down into her drawer and turning to face her roommate. "Thanks, for cleaning my side of the room, and for not opening that box."

"You're welcome," Maria wasn't sure how to react, a second ago it had seemed like Guinne was going to bite her head off over this and now she was smiling a little. Was she just mad because of the box? Maria wondered.

Guinne smiled, she was still kind of upset, but her private things were still private, Maria hadn't opened Guinne's keepsake box. That box had things that she knew nobody should ever see. "Wanna order take out? I'm starving!" Guinne asked, dropping down onto her bed across from where Maria sat on the love seat.

"Sure, sounds good. You have all those flyers, why don't you pick somewhere and then we can both find something we like," Guinne usually ordered food in, Maria preferred to go out, or use the communal kitchen.

"Sure, how about Mexican? I haven't ordered from that place on 5th in like a month."

"Sounds good," Maria smiled, as Guinne rolled over and dug around in her night stand drawer for the take-out menu. Most restaurants nearby delivered, with it being a college area it was profitable for them. Maria couldn't help but notice the gentle curve of Guinne's backside. She had always considered it one of Guinne's best qualities. She swallowed a little thickly, and turned her eyes away as Guinne rolled back over and started to flip through the menu.

"I don't need the menu, I'll have the grande chicken enchilada beef tamale combo, I mean, if you're gonna order."

"Yep, I am," Guinne smiled. She dug her cell phone out and ordered what Maria had wanted, as well as a normal cheese enchilada meal for herself.

"So, how were classes today?" Maria asked, trying to act casual, but her stomach was all a flutter and her heart was beating a little fast. Maria suddenly realized that she had always had a thing for Guinne, but had been pushing it down, keeping it hidden even from herself.

"They were fine," Guinne responded, chewing on her lip for a moment, was awkward small talk how they were going to be now? Maybe she needed to say something, just get this started. "I had a lot of fun last night and I can't get you out of my head Maria and I want to do it again."

Maria wasn't sure what to say, staring at her roommate for a moment, of course it was what she wanted. "What about that guy from your past you just started seeing?" She asked, she had to get this all clear. She wasn't going to be Guinne's fuck buddy. She didn't do that.

"It can't really work out with him," Guinne whispered the words, looking at the floor. Why did Maria have to bring up Art? Why did she have to do that?

"Why not?"

He's my brother? Guinne thought, but she couldn't say that out loud, admit that deviance. "He's kind of close to my family and it would be awkward. My parents wouldn't approve, it was nice seeing him for a little while, but I know nothing can come of it."

"So, if you were to be with me you'd be done with him? I'm not interested in you if you're just exploring your sexuality while still dating some guy Guinne."

Guinne stared at her roommate, honestly unsure how to react. This was hard. How was she supposed to just give up on Art like that? She wanted Maria, but Maria was asking so much. "I don't know," She finally whispered, her eye locking with Maria. "I like you, I really do, but I've never had feelings for another woman before. I just don't understand them and Art is so ..." Guinne stopped suddenly, realizing what she'd said. Realizing she had just said her brother's name, her cheeks darkened to crimson and she stood up abruptly, running into the bathroom.

Maria was confused, unsure why her roommate had just freaked out. What did I do now? I didn't even say anything. Wait... She said Art... her brother? Is she ... seeing her brother? Like that? Maria had her own turn at turning crimson now as she stared at the door to the bathroom. Her body shifting a little bit, she couldn't help but picture them together. She hadn't been with a man in a long time, but she did fantasize about them sometimes and right now she couldn't get the image of Art and Guinne going at it out of her mind. She pulled her hand away from where it had started rubbing between her legs. Staring at it, half disgusted with herself.

Guinne sat on the toilet, her face buried in her hands, had she just screwed up everything? She had just been trying to explain things to Maria, and his name had slipped out. Maybe she could have glossed over it, but how she'd reacted... Maria would know. How could she not? Oh god, what will she think of me? I ... I really like her. I want her to like me.

"Guinne?" Maria called through the door as she knocked on it. "Guinne come out, we need to keep talking." Maria stared at the door, Guinne didn't respond. Minutes passed, and she knocked again. "Please?"

Guinne sighed and rubbed at her eyes, she had started to cry a little but she wiped the tears away and moved to the door, opening it. Maria was right there in front of her, "What is there to talk about?" She asked.

"Us, and you and Art," Maria said, offering a supportive smile and taking Guinne's hand in her own. "Come on, come sit down and we'll talk about this." Guinne didn't know what to do, or say, she just let Maria guide her to the love seat and sat down next to her when she sat down. "Do you want to tell me how it started?"

"What?"

"You and your brother, Guinne."

"I don't know what you mean."

"Are you sure? I'm not going to judge you, I just want to know."

Guinne had no idea what to do, her gut said to trust Maria, but her mind said to not. There was a knock at the door and Guinne got up quickly, grabbing her wallet. It was their dinner, she paid the guy and he left.

Guinne set the food down on Maria's desk, it was the closest to the door, and began to pull things out. She brought Maria her food, then got her own. She returned to where she'd been sitting next to her roommate.

"Thanks for dinner Guinne," Maria smiled at her and began to dig in. She couldn't push Guinne, she knew that if she did, it would just go poorly, so for now she just ate.

It was a few minutes later when Guinne finally spoke. "I used to watch him, when we were younger and still lived together. I would watch him play with himself, and he is, I guess, what made me aware of my sexuality. Since then I've always had a thing for him and a couple weeks ago it just all came together. I spent the night at his house and in the morning I went to watch him, like I did when we were younger."

"His whole routine had changed though, when we were kids he'd stay in bed, now that he lives alone he just wanders around his house playing with himself before he gets ready, I guess. So I followed him, and then ... well, I jerked him off. He freaked. At first I thought he was never going to speak to me again. But after I talked to him about how I felt, he was a little more open to it. It started out as just hands and mouths, but then we took a shower the morning after our 'date' and we ... well you know."

Guinne couldn't believe how much better she felt sharing that, Maria couldn't believe how wet her panties were. Maria was an only child, she had never had any incest fantasies or anything, and now here she was faced with real incest. And it was seriously turning her on. She got up, putting the Styrofoam container in the garbage and grabbing a soda from the little mini fridge they shared. She drank a few long gulps from it, as she leaned against her desk.

Guinne watched Maria, unsure what was going to happen next. It felt good to share this with somebody, but how would Maria react to it all? She looked down at her food, her appetite disappearing. She closed the box up and put it in the fridge, then got up off her bed. Maria's eyes were on her the whole time, she could feel them. Why was she staring at Guinne though? Was it disgust or was it lust? Could it be a little of both?

"So, what movie did you get?" Guinne asked, looking over at the little television in the corner, she let out a little squeak when she felt Maria's body press against her back, hands sliding around her waist.

"I don't want to watch a movie Guinne," the words huskily breathed into Guinne's ear. Guinne froze up for a second. Maria still wanted her? After a moment she turned in Maria's arms and looked into her eyes.
