Momma came over as the door opened and in walked Papa and the Duke. She handed me the child and said proudly, "It's a boy, darling."
Gio and I smiled and I said as we looked at him, "He's beautiful!"
"Just like his Papi," Gio said. I pressed my lips to his and he accepted them as willingly as ever.
When we stopped kissing, the Duke said softly, "Do you know what you are going to name him?"
Gio shook his head but I nodded and said, "Yes."
"What?" Lily said.
I smiled and replied as I stroked the baby's forehead, "His name's Gabriel."
That name had belonged to Gio's grandfather, whom he had loved very much. Gio smiled and said to me, "Honestly, my love?"
"Yes, Gio. I loved the name from the moment you told me about your grandfather."
"My love, thank you," he replied.
I woke some time later and smiled at what I saw. Gio was cradling Gabriel in his arms and whispering to him. I smiled as I heard some of what he was saying.
"Your Papi is a kind, caring and loving man. I can tell already you will have that quality from him, but I can see my precious boy also has his beautiful eyes."
I smiled softly as I said tiredly, "You're kind, caring and loving too, my husband."
"Sorry, my love, I didn't mean to wake you up," he said softly with a smile.
"You didn't, my husband. How is he doing?"
"He is almost sound asleep," he replied, placing Gabriel into his crib next to our bed.
I sighed heavily as Gio got into bed and pulled me into his arms. He smiled softly, "You were so brave today, my love."
"I was scared beyond belief, Gio."
"Yes and also snippy," he replied laughingly.
"I'm sorry for biting your head off."
"It's fine. I found it quite funny, actually,"
he replied.
"Sleepy," I moaned softly.
Gio hushed me as he said quietly, stroking his fingers along my arms, "Shh, sleep my love."
I sighed as slumber crept over me and pulled me into darkness.
Later that night, Gio and I stood in the water as I held out our son. He was dressed in light green clothing and I looked up at Gio and pressed my lips to his.
I sighed happily as we turned to walk back home.
The wind began to pick up speed, the water began to thrash against the rocks, Gio and I. I tightened my hold on Gabriel as a light began to shine in front of us.
I gasped as a person began to materialize in front of us. Immediately, I thrust the baby at my mate. "Gio, take Gabriel and keep him safe."
"What is it Aquila? What's going on?" he asked, taking hold of Gabriel.
As Gio said this Theron materialized in front of us. His hair was wild and his skin was completely covered in blood, his eyes where as black a coal, in his hands where two black swords dripping with blood.
"Theron!" I snarled.
"I'm going to give you one last chance, come to me and be mine, and I will spare your precious Gio's life and the life of your baby!"
"Never!" I screamed.
"Then they shall both die along with you." The way he said it was dead, all the emotion drained from his voice. He sounded hollow.
"If you dare touch a single hair on my husband's or my baby's head I swear to the dark gods I will peel the skin from your bones."
"Aquila?" Gio said, allowing the worry to show within his voice.
"Take Gabriel and protect him, Gio. Go to my mom Selena's home. I'll be fine."
Gio nodded and ran with Gabriel safely in his arms.
"Ahh!"
I jumped back quickly as Theron's sword swung across my chest, slicing my robe open and carving a shallow cut on my chest. A thin line of blood poured from the cut and down my body, the water mixing with the blood.
I snarled threatingly and said, "This time you will die, you bastard." As I said this I felt my powers take over my body. Two lightning-powered sais materialized in my hands.
"Ahh!" I shouted as I ran towards Theron.
Our swords swung through the air. I missed him and as he leaned back, he brought his arms up and his sword collided with my face. Blood began to pour down my check. Snarling, Theron swung his sword once again and this time it collided with one of my sais. Twisting my hand, I knocked the sword from Theron's grip and it flew into the ground behind him.
I yelled in rage and swung my sais near Theron. From his neck a thin line of blood began to trickle down, falling into the water beneath his feet. His blood was as black as his eyes, as black as coal.
"No! I screamed in shock as Theron's foot collided with my chest, catapulting me backwards. My back hit a tree and I fell to the floor.
"Let's see you protect them now, bitch!" Theron said, his hand colliding with my head.
I groaned as the darkness became to pull me in. I just managed to see Theron run in the direction of Gio and Gabriel as my world went black.
I groaned as I opened my eyes slowly. "Wha-" I said to myself, before all the images began to race through my head of Theron and me fighting once again.
I gasped as I scrambled to my feet and ran in the direction Theron had gone, towards Gio and Gabriel. I just prayed that they were safe and Theron hadn't found them.
I cried out when I saw Gio lying on the floor. His blood was slowly trickling down his face and into the water. I pressed my hand to his wound and said, "I call upon the ancient waters, help me heal this wound."
"Aquila?" Gio said softly.
"Gio are you ok? Where's Gabriel, Gio?" I asked frantically.
"Gabriel? Oh god Aquila, he has him! Theron has Gabriel!"
"Come on, I think I know where he's gone," I said, pulling Gio up and we both set off running.
Time seemed to pass so slowly before Theron's heavy tracks led us to a cave. A low light was emerging from it and I just knew Theron was inside, inside with my baby.
The cave walls where lined with fresh skulls, some of them still had skin attached and fur. I gasped as I felt a cold shiver run down my spine; it felt like my whole world was coming to an end.
Gasping, I felt like I was frozen in place. Theron had Gabriel placed on a rock, an inverted pentagram above his head as Theron swayed back and forth. He was speaking an ancient language I couldn't understand.
"Gio!" I said in a panicked voice.
"I know love, wait here. When I make my move, you fight off Theron and I'll get Gabriel out of here, can you do that?"
I snarled and said in a deathly whisper, "Make sure you do it quickly, because if he gets any closer to Gabriel I will cut of his head in front of my son!"
Gio nodded and moved away, behind a rock and down a corridor that I knew led to near Gabriel and Theron. I sighed heavily as I waited for Gio to make his move, my swords beginning to materialise in my hands once more.
I saw Gio move into place as Theron turned around, his gaze nearly went right to me but he moved around too fast to be able to see me behind the rock wall. I inhaled sharply as I saw Gio moving closer and closer to Theron, whose eyes were focused on the ceiling. Just as Gio got close enough to grab Gabriel, I cried out and ran towards Theron.
Theron turned around and stared at me in shock as I swung my swords at him. I just missed his neck as he stepped back a second before I could kill him.
"Gio, take Gabriel out of here now!"
"Your child will die this night, it is inevitable!" Theron snarled, making me see nothing but red. I sighed thankfully as I saw Gio run out of the cave with Gabriel.
"Yaaa!" I screamed, running towards Theron and swinging my swords, his colliding with mine each and every time.
"Ahh!" I screamed as Theron's sword sliced my face, a thin line of blood trickling down my check and falling onto the floor.
"Ha-ha, now you see you will never win! I will kill you, kill your precious Gio and kill your darling bastard of a son!"
"NOOO!" I screamed, swinging my swords at Theron in rage and at such a fast speed he couldn't protect himself from them.
One sword connected with his leg and Theron screamed in pain as he fell on his wounded knee.
Snarling, I crossed my swords around his neck and said, "You will never hurt me or anyone I love ever again!"
The look in Theron's eyes could only be described as pure shock and horror. My hands twitched slightly as I crossed them fully over one another, the blades cutting into Theron's neck.
His gurgles filled the cave as blood poured down from his neck and his hands wrapped around the wound, trying to stop the blood from coming out. His skin began to blacken and bubbles rose as the he fell down to the floor and convulsed. When he finally stopped twitching around the floor his skin was completely black and he began to fade away as his body turned to ash.
I gasped and dropped to the floor as the realisation of what had just happened finally hit me. I was free, free of Theron for good.
Gio ran over to me and pulled me into his arms as he pressed his lips to mine. We stopped kissing due to lack of air and stood up.
Gio smiled as he wrapped his arm around me. I clung to Gabriel and he said, "Come my love, let's go home."
****
I couldn't help but smile as I sat on the end of the bed and watched Gio sleeping. Gabriel lay asleep in the crib next to us. Our life was finally free of any danger Theron could do to us; he would never hurt me or anyone I cared about ever again. Sighing happily, I crawled under the covers and smiled more as Gio pulled me into his arm embrace, his soft voice filling my ears, "I love you Aquila."
"I love you too, Gio," I replied, letting the sweet slumber pull me in and allowing me to dream of the future I knew I looked forward to with Gio and our baby Gabriel.
I knew that no matter what, as long as I had my mate and my son, nothing could ever hurt me again. I was without a doubt unmistakably and irrevocably happy and in love.
