They decided to retain their motel room for another night rather than return home. That night in the motel they watched a newscast and learned that an attempted bank robbery had been thwarted in a nearby town. All four robbers had been shot to death either by sheriff deputies in front of the bank or state police officers at a roadblock. The news program had photographs of two of the robbers from old arrest records. Jessie and Annie recognized Luke and Lonny.
