Abe grabbed Ty's hand as they walked into the restaurant. Ty stiffened. His instincts told him to pull away, but he took a deep breath and tried to relax. He smiled up at Abe who beamed back at him with pride.
"We're looking for the Vaughn party," Abe told the hostess.
The blond girl's eyes widened as she looked Abe up and down. Her gaze shifted over to Ty and then to their joined hands.
She smiled broadly at them, "Of course. Follow me."
Ty realized he had been holding his breath, nervous about her reaction—about everyone's reaction—to him holding hands with Abe. He wanted to hold hands with Abe, and really, everyone he cared about already knew about his relationship with Abe, but that didn't prevent his unease. Tension curled around his gut like a snake. Someone might say or do something to make them feel bad. There was a lot of homophobia out there, not to mention racism.
At a restaurant as posh as this one, the staff would be too well trained to make any rude comments, but that wouldn't stop them from thinly veiled insults and contemptuous looks. Ty was glad that the hostess, at least, didn't seem bothered by their relationship one bit.
She led them through a well-appointed dining room, decorated in muted tones of brown, cream and blue. Ty noted the white table linens, crystal water goblets, and real silver on the tables. He felt underdressed. He was a wearing a nice button-down shirt, but he didn't own a suit that fit him anymore, so black jeans, boots and leather jacket were it. Abe was wearing a charcoal suit with a purple tie and looked absolutely stunning.
They arrived at a very large wrap-around booth in the far corner of the room. It was already mostly occupied, so they took two of the three chairs that were on the end. Kaeden, who was in the other chair, jumped up to give them hugs and a big welcoming smile.
Nigel greeted them warmly. Ty introduced Abe to him, and Nigel introduced the two of them to everyone else at the table. Ty already knew Kaeden, Dani and Sean, but he didn't know Taylor, who he recognized as Leather's platinum blond lead singer, or the two women who were sitting on either side of him, vying for his attention, Sheila and Penny.
"Who invited them?" Taylor asked coldly.
"We did," Nigel replied, giving Taylor a level look. "We said two guests each. This works out fine—you brought two guests and Sean and I brought four."
Taylor scowled.
Before he could say anything else, Nigel threatened, "If you like we can divide up the tab guest-wise instead of splitting it evenly three-ways. Ty, Kaeden and Dani don't drink so...." He looked pointedly at the large pink concoctions that Taylor's guests were sucking down.
"I can pay for us," Abe said. He was uncomfortable and irritated that this conversation was even happening.
"I can pay for myself," Ty insisted.
"No, that won't be necessary," Nigel said, clearly unhappy about Taylor's attitude. "We invited you. It's our party. We're paying." He allowed a large grin to creep over his face. "Besides, we can afford it now."
"Congratulations! And thank you," Ty said graciously.
"I can't believe we're finally making money!" Sean was feeling jovial. He grinned lecherously at Kaeden who smiled back demurely. Sean was sitting on the end of the booth next to Kaeden and he was having a difficult time not touching the glamorous femme.
Kaeden had not missed the fact that Ty and Abe had arrived holding hands, and since they were seated next to him, he could see that they were still holding hands, their fingers tightly entwined under the table.
Never one to hold back, he asked, "So, you're a couple now?"
"Yes." Ty blushed beautifully and Abe's expression was that of a large predator, just sated from a successful hunt.
"That's wonderful!" Dani congratulated them. He squeezed Nigel's thigh and the Englishman playfully licked his earlobe causing the younger man to shiver violently. He grinned up at Nigel.
"Well, aren't we all just happy couples?" Taylor commented sourly.
"Oh hush," one of his bimbos—the dark-haired one, Sheila—said. "I think they're all just so cute! I love gay boys."
"Fag Hag!" Taylor muttered.
"What have you been up to?" Ty asked Dani. He hadn't seen him in several weeks.
"Working, of course, and writing songs, but mostly hanging out at the studio watching these guys record. It's pretty interesting."
"Thank god Dani likes to watch, otherwise I don't think I'd ever get to see him. We're working our arses off!" Nigel said.
"How long will it be before you're done?" Abe asked. He couldn't help but be impressed. These guys had talent and drive, and were following their dreams.
"Since we've never done this before, it's hard to say. The studio wants us to write three more songs to round out the album, but we're spending so much time recording what we've already written, it's hard to find the time to even think about coming up with something else. We're supposed to finish up by the end next month—that's not even six weeks away. I don't think we'll make it.
"You'd better make it!" They all turned to see Jerry, Leather's manager, joining them.
Sean shifted over in the booth. "Kaeden," he said, patting the place next to him and looking hopefully at the young Asian.
Kaeden smiled sweetly at Sean and gave up his seat for Jerry, sliding next to the big Irishman.
Sean couldn't help but slip his arm around Kaeden's thin waist, leaning over for a whiff of the vanilla-scented skin on his long neck.
Feck! "You smell wonderful," he murmured. He squirmed in his seat to give his cock a little more room, trying not to be obvious about it.
Since, he'd met Kaeden, Sean had barely glanced at anyone else. All others paled in comparison to the sexy femme. He knew he was infatuated, but there didn't seem to be anything he could do about it. Now having Kaeden close enough to smell and touch was pushing his hormones into overdrive.
Kaeden looked up at him through long lowered lashes, and Sean couldn't help but catch his breath at the young man's delicate beauty. He had swept the long side of his hair on top of his head into a glamorous updo that hid most of his cheeky spikes. Sparkling earrings cascaded from his dainty ears, tinkling softly when he moved.
"You'd better behave, or I'm going to move over next to Dani," the young femme threatened.
"I'll be good," Sean promised, taking his arm off of Kaeden's waist and resting it on the back of the booth behind him. His leg was pressed next to the smaller man's, but he left it there, smiling down at his heartthrob.
Kaeden was acutely aware of Sean's muscular thigh warming his leg. He noticed the big man's cock was a sizeable bulge down the leg of his tight leather pants.
A small thrill ran through him and he fought to appear indifferent. Then he caught a whiff of Sean—he smelled like cigarettes and scotch. Ugh! Such a turn-off. A brief pang of sadness pierced him. He was very attracted to Sean on a physical level. He'd even gotten used to his baldness. Sean had proven himself, surprisingly, to be very sweet. He also made no secret of his lust for Kaeden, which was very flattering.
But Kaeden couldn't get past the fact that Sean was, in his opinion, a major drug addict. It seemed like, if the drug existed, Sean was into it. That lifestyle was so opposite Kaeden's own that he couldn't reconcile the two.
"I refuse to compromise on quality. If it takes us longer than six weeks to get it right, then we'll have to renegotiate that deadline," Nigel was saying.
"They're already working on marketing pieces and a concert schedule," Jerry protested. "You can't just take as much time as you want. The ball is already rolling."
"We'll make every effort to finish on time, but we should come up with plan B just in case."
"You'll just have to work harder," Jerry insisted.
"We're already putting in ten or twelve hour days, six days a week. You can only squeeze so much blood out of that stone," Sean pointed out.
"Wow, you're working that much?" Kaeden exclaimed. He had been by the studio several times to hang out with Dani and the band. He knew the boys were spending a lot of time there, but he hadn't realized just how much.
"They're at the studio that many hours," Jerry clarified. "I wouldn't say they're working that many hours."
"Even so, " Kaeden pointed out, "I doubt being at the studio is very conducive to coming up with new material."
"It's not," Nigel agreed. "I write best when I'm alone and relaxed. After I get the initial idea down, that's when I need to get together with my band mates to finish it, but the inspiration almost always come to me when I'm by myself."
"How long have you been working at this pace?" Kaeden asked with concern.
"Too fucking long," Sean growled. "But, that's the life of a rock star," he added with a grin. "It's not so bad. I love being in the studio."
Taylor gave his opinion: "It's a fuckin' nightmare."
"We've been recording since early August, so that's what ... two-and-a-half months?" Nigel said.
"Wow! And how many songs have you written during that time?" Kaeden asked.
The band members exchanged looks.
"None," Nigel admitted. "All of the material we have, we had already developed before we got signed."
"No, we've been working on it," Taylor protested.
"We've been fleshing it out and polishing it, yes, but all of the initial work was done before we even got the contract."
"That's true," Sean agreed. "How the hell are we going to come up with three songs in just six weeks?"
"Do you all write songs?" Kaeden asked. He had his management, problem-solving hat on now.
"Yeah, we've all contributed some," Nigel said.
"Some more than others," Sean rumbled, with a pointed look at Taylor.
"And you usually get your initial ideas when you're alone?"
Nigel and Sean both nodded affirmatively. Taylor looked uncertain.
"Well, I think you should all take several days off, to relax and recover and work on songs."
"Didn't you hear what they said?" Jerry protested. "They're worried they won't finish on time."
"Yes, and what is the biggest task they have before them?"
"Writing songs," Nigel said with a nod.
"Exactly! And how do they write songs best?" Kaeden was bubbling with excitement now. "They should probably take several days a week off from now until they have some solid ideas, and then pull the long hours on the tail-end to polish their work. Actually, most studies show that people are actually less productive when they work more hours, so I'm not sure it's a good idea even then."
"That's crazy!" Jerry protested.
"No, it's a fact!" Kaeden said.
"I think he's got a good point," Nigel agreed. "We should all take a few days off, starting tomorrow."
"But ... the studio...."
"Here's to that!" Sean interrupted, raising his glass.
Taylor and Nigel both clinked glasses with him.
"Yeow! Tomorrow's a day off!" Sean bellowed enthusiastically. Then he drained his drink. "Oh waiter!" He flagged the nearest staff person down. "Can we get another round here? And keep them coming!"
"Aw, shit," Kaeden muttered under his breath. This was not the point of the day off.
Jerry glared at him.
He was saved by their waiter who appeared at the table to relay the daily specials. Things quieted down for a few minutes while everyone figured out what they wanted to order for dinner.
After deciding on the lake trout with wild mushroom ragout, Kaeden focused his attention on Ty and Abe. They looked great together. Their chairs were as close together as they could get and Ty was snuggled up against Abe's chest, looking very happy. While he watched, Abe bent his face down and smelled Ty's hair, and then briefly tightened his arm around Ty's waist. They looked so much in love that it brought a pang of longing to Kaeden's breast.
That's what I want! Will I ever have that?
Later, after their waiter had delivered another round of drinks and taken their dinner order, Kaeden slipped off to the restroom. When he returned, he paused before sitting down, noticing the top of Sean's head.
"You're not bald!" he exclaimed, running a hand over the extremely short stubble on the Irishman's head. "You're not even thinning."
A thrill shot through Sean at Kaeden's touch. His cock swelled rapidly as he tried to calm his breathing.
"Yeah, I need to shave." He ran his own hand over the top of his head. "I've just been so damn busy...." He shot a glare at Jerry as if it were his fault.
"Why do you shave, if you're not already going bald?" Kaeden asked curiously, sliding onto the seat next to Sean.
"I don't like my hair."
"What's wrong with it?"
"It's red."
"Really?" Kaeden's voice sounded excited.
"And curly."
"I LOVE red, curly hair!" Kaeden squealed.
"You do?" Sean was shocked.
"Uh ... yeah!" Kaeden's tone was one of disbelief, as if he couldn't imagine anyone not loving red curly hair.
"It gets really unruly when I let it grow."
"Wow! That's so cool," Kaeden said.
Sean looked at him as if he were crazy but didn't say anything more.
Their dinner arrived and everyone fell to eating. The conversation flowed pleasantly for the most part. Both of the girls who had come with Taylor were drunk and becoming increasingly loud. Sean was probably drunk too, Kaeden judged, but you couldn't tell. He seemed the same as always.
After dinner Sean left for the bathroom and Taylor and his bimbos followed, the girls laughing raucously. When they all returned several minutes later, Kaeden could tell they'd been doing blow. Not only were they all more animated, but he caught several sniffles and the surreptitious wiping of noses. Kaeden tried not to feel superior to them or feel sorry for them. He was happy to note that Dani and Nigel had not joined them.
He caught Ty looking at Sean with a wistful look in his eye, but Abe nuzzled his neck, capturing his attention. Abe whispered something in Ty's ear. The redhead blushed deeply and the smile that played around his lips was devilish.
Kaeden smiled. Abe is keeping Ty out of trouble. He is perfect for him.
They ordered a few decadent desserts to share and some of them got coffee or another drink. Jerry excused himself, saying he had some things to do. He congratulated the band and warned them that he'd call tomorrow to discuss their schedule.
Shortly thereafter, during a brief lull in the conversation, Dani suddenly spoke up. "Isn't that Yoshi?"
Kaeden glanced across the restaurant in the direction Dani was looking.
"Yes, it is," Kaeden said, stiffening slightly in spite of himself.
Yoshi looked impeccable, as always, in a black tailored suit and turquoise tie. He had his arm around a tiny, gorgeous Asian and Kaeden couldn't help the explosion of jealousy that erupted in his breast.
Sean looked with interest at Kaeden's former benefactor. The Irishman had been ecstatic to find out that his love interest was no longer in an exclusive with the wealthy Japanese.
However, he wasn't happy that Kaeden still wanted to work for Sally. He had hounded Dani over Kaeden's choices. Dani was pretty closed-mouthed about his friend's personal life, but he had said enough for Sean to figure out that, other than Yoshi, Kaeden had no professional experience as a rent boy. He'd also found out that Dani hadn't had any success in talking Kaeden out of his career choice.
Sean certainly didn't have any sway over Kaeden. The femme was always sweet to him when he came to the studio with Dani, but he hadn't given him any sign that he wanted more than a casual friendship, even though Sean had been quite forward with his advances.
Sean was very frustrated. He could not get enough of the femme. Everything about Kaeden was perfect except for the fact that he wasn't with him.
Now, sensing Kaeden's mood, Sean slid an arm around the young Asian's lithe waist and pulled him closer.
Kaeden didn't protest. His mind swirled with emotions. His feelings about Yoshi were mixed. He had been mostly very sweet and they had parted on good, if strained, terms. Still, it hurt to see him with someone else when Kaeden was feeling so alone.
Just as the hostess was seating them, Yoshi glanced around and spotted Kaeden. Bringing his companion with him, he headed over to their table.
"Hello Kaeden," he greeted him with a smile and a small bow. His eyes flicked over to Dani. Stewartsan." He gave another small bow but quickly returned his attention to Kaeden.
"You look well." His eyes briefly perused Sean whose arm tightened around Kaeden possessively.
"You're looking fine yourself, Yoshisan. How have you been?"
Yoshi allowed himself a large grin and glanced down at his young escort with a twinkle in his eye. "Very fine, thank you."
The younger Asian had one of the most beautiful faces Kaeden had ever seen, with exquisite cheekbones, smooth nut-brown skin, and large, dark eyes. D-cup breasts spilled out of her low-cut silver shirt.
"This is Ami," Yoshi introduced his tiny companion. "Just from Thailand—speak no English."
"Pleased to meet you, Ami," Kaeden said, smiling politely while doing a thorough visual examination of Yoshi's new escort.
Ami nodded and smiled at him demurely.
"We go back to our table now," Yoshi said. "Good to see you Kaeden. Glad you are happy." He glanced at Sean curiously one last time before leading Ami away.
"I didn't know Yoshi was bi," Sean said in a low voice.
"He's not," Kaeden said equally quietly. "That's not a woman." If Kaeden hadn't specifically checked out Ami's crotch, he never would have guessed.
"You mean...?" Sean was shocked.
"Shemale," Kaeden confirmed, "and not a natural one, I'm willing to bet."
All eyes went to Ami as everyone at the table tried to reconcile Kaeden's assertion with the beautiful young woman they saw.
"Damn," Sheila said softly. "I figured those humongous breasts were fake—they don't look quite right on her small frame. Oh, I mean his small frame." She giggled loudly.
"By god, you're right," Nigel observed with a tinge of awe. "His pants are tight enough to show off his little package."
"That's disgusting," Taylor said.
"He didn't waste any time finding someone else to get that operation," Kaeden pouted. "Ami looks fully recovered."
"Someone else?" Sean queried. "You mean he wanted you to get boobs?"
Kaeden hadn't meant to admit that, but now that he had he couldn't deny it. "Yes, that's why we broke up." Suddenly Kaeden was choked up and blinking back tears. Damn! Where is this coming from?
Without thinking about it, Sean scooped Kaeden up and set him on one of his massive thighs, sliding his arm more tightly around the younger man's waist. Seeing Kaeden in distress caused a sharp pain in his chest. He needed to make his little bird feel better immediately.
"Don't cry, sweet bird. You're perfect the way you are." He nuzzled Kaeden's neck. "I wouldn't change a hair." He ran a finger down Kaeden's smooth chest, visible because the neckline of his tight shirt was a deep vee. "Or lack of hair as the case may be," he murmured into Kaeden's ear.
Kaeden was startled when Sean pulled him onto his lap, but he wasn't uncomfortable. He could see Yoshi out of the corner of his eye, watching him. When Sean ran a finger down his chest, Kaeden couldn't help the shiver that ran through him. He saw Yoshi scowl. In spite of the fact that he was sitting with his gorgeous shemale, he looked clearly jealous.
