Taken By The Wind Ch. 04bymxwtt©
Thank you to all of you who left such kind comments on the previous installation. It has been really encouraging to see the positive response to this series to this point. A warning: this story features anal sex, if such acts offend you, stop reading here.
You will likely notice that this installation is substantially (read two times) longer than the previous in the series, this is for two reasons.
First: pacing. I like a lot of build-up and to include a story, but to include that while also including 'action scenes' if you will, I have to make these things longer or the series will be twenty-some chapters long, which I would rather avoid, cut out the story elements which I would also rather not do, or remove the 'action scenes' which would simply defeat the purpose of writing erotic fiction.
Second: self-censorship. I received a comment from a reader regarding Coach King (another series of mine, for new readers) telling me my chapters were too long, which stuck with me for some foolish reason. When preparing 'Taken By The Wind' I started breaking it into smaller chunks, thinking that would be better. I've found that I don't like doing it that way, as I found myself leaving details out that I might otherwise include to satisfy some self-imposed page count.
I understand if some of you do not like this change, and I am sorry if this stops you from reading the remaining chapters of this series, but I do not intend to go back to the other way. To the rest of you, thanks for sticking with me, and I assure you this will not delay the release of the upcoming chapters in any way.
This has already been abhorrently long-winded, so I'll end it there.
PS. If you are new to the series, or me in general, hello. I recommend reading the previous installments first, and if you enjoy them, perhaps check out my other series.
The pain was familiar but no less agonizing for it. Brianna groaned, and rolled away from the wall. Her hand brushed against something, it was warm. Her fingers went further, it was an arm. At first she thought it was Courtney's but it was too big, too hairy, and altogether too masculine. Brianna's eyes opened and she looked over to her side, she yelped and sprang back, her butt impacting the wall loudly.
Rob stirred and his eyes fluttered open, he pressed his hand to his forehead and looked for the source of the sound that had woken him. He glanced at Brianna, and the events of the previous night came back to him.
Brianna stared wide-eyed at Rob, at his naked body as he lay on his stomach beside her, his disheveled hair, and his tired eyes.
Her eyes widened in fright. "Did we..."
Rob looked at her and frowned. "No."
"Oh thank God," she said. She put her hand over her eyes, relieved that her fears had not been realised.
"Gee, thanks," Rob quipped, grinning at her tiredly.
Brianna blushed. "No, it's just... Well, I'm not into... I mean I don't like..." she stammered. "I like girls," she said finally. "If we'd..."
"Oh," Rob said. "I get it."
The questions that would have arisen if she had slept with him were sure to have been confusing and painful for someone who had gone through it all in the opposite direction. Brianna had only told Courtney and her family so far.
"So, you and Courtney?" Brianna asked, averting her eyes from his naked body timidly.
"Uh, yeah. I guess," he replied. His memories of the previous night after a certain point were pretty foggy. Images flashed behind his eyes, of Courtney in the bathroom, then in the bedroom. He felt like he could still taste her lips. He felt drained, but pleasantly. The most vivid memory he still held was of her body rippling and shaking under him, so he hoped she had had a good time as well.
"Uh, listen. I'm not really 'out' yet," Brianna said nervously, not sure why she had told him in the first place. It had just felt necessary.
Rob looked at her. "Oh, okay. I won't tell anyone."
It was then that he recognized her as the girl taking body shots off of the redhead the previous night.
She smiled appreciatively. "Thanks, Courtney's the only one I've told outside of my family."
"And now there's me," he said, grinning at her while squinting against the sunlight.
At that moment Courtney entered through the closed bedroom door, a small dog under her arm. Rob smiled when he saw her, and she grinned back at him tiredly as she set Winston down. She had changed out of her dress and into a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. Her hair was wet from the shower she had just had. She came back to the bed, sliding in between Rob and Brianna.
"Nice tattoo," Courtney said, running her hand along his back.
"Thanks," he said.
It was a tree with its roots and branches entwined to form a circle, shaded in with black and positioned in the upper portion of his back. It was not large, but it was not small either, centered ideally horizontally so that the trunk followed the line of his spine. Courtney studied the intricacy of the design, the knotted and twisted branches and roots linked together, simultaneously masculine and beautiful. She ran the tip of her finger along his flesh, the slightest contact stirring a deep and lustful part of Rob.
The tattoo had been the source of a great deal of controversy with his parents when he had had it done earlier the previous year. His father hated the thing, and so his mother did as well on principal. They had come around eventually, however, or at least accepted the fact that it was not going away any time soon. It was a trick Rob had learned from Jane, go ahead and beg forgiveness later. If the offense was not too egregious you would get away with a few privileges taken away and a severe talking to.
Courtney's finger continued to circle his tattoo, following every root and branch with just the nail of her right forefinger. She was studying the exposed flesh of his shoulders and back, as well as the well-muscled arms that disappeared under the pillow his head was resting on. The same pillow she had screamed into the previous night as her orgasms had crashed over her.
That this sleepy-eyed, soft-spoken Rob was the same guy who had done that to her the previous night seemed impossible. That it was Rob Kavanagh at all, seemed impossible. North Side girls were not supposed to hook up with South End guys. Still, it was him, the flesh beneath her fingernail was real, the hairs rising to attention on the back of his neck at the sensation of it were really there, and the flush she felt forming on her cheeks as she studied his physique was genuine.
"You should get dressed, don't want to tempt Brianna," Courtney said, startled by her response to seeing him like this.
Rob laughed. "I'd be barking up the wrong tree wouldn't I?"
He shifted on the bed as she took her hand away, ignoring the rising erection pressing into the mattress beneath him.
Courtney blinked. "What do you mean?"
"He knows Courtney," Brianna said.
"You told him?" Courtney asked incredulously.
"Yeah. I mean, I didn't really mean to, it just sort of slipped out I guess," she replied.
"Well, I guess that's one less person I can't tell," Courtney said.
Brianna smiled gently. "I'm getting more comfortable with saying it I guess."
Rob felt like he was observing a moment he was not fully a part of, he lacked the backstory but he saw the gratitude in Brianna's eyes and the support in Courtney's. Winston chose that moment to jump up on the bed and attack Courtney's ankles with wet kisses. She squealed and laughed, sitting up and lifting him into her lap. He snuffled in the bowl between her crossed legs, snuggling against her as she scratched his ears.
"I'm going to go get cleaned up," Brianna said.
"Okay," Courtney said. "Use the one downstairs, everyone else is pretty much gone already but Wayne and Amy are still in the one up here."
"Alright," Brianna replied as she walked to the door, closing it behind her.
Rob rolled over, his lower body covered by a blanket. He reached over and let Winston smell his hand before scratching him behind the ears. This let Courtney observe his naked torso, which made her feel warm again so she averted her eyes. She needed to discuss what had happened with him. She did not want to come across as desperate, but she hoped against hope that he actually felt something for her and did not just see her as a notch in his belt.
"So," Courtney began, "about last night..."
Rob's heart sank, fearing he was about to be rejected by two girls in the span of a week and a half.
"Yeah," he said.
Courtney stroked the dog in her lap, feeling strangely nervous. What did it matter if it was just a one off thing? She had had as much fun as he had. The flirting had been pleasant, the dancing exciting, and what followed... Well, from what she remembered, it had been a lot more than pleasant and exciting. But, Courtney found herself not wanting it to just be a 'one off thing', she wanted it to be an 'as many times as I can get it' thing.
This unsettled her, when she felt like this she usually wound up in a relationship lasting a few months that ultimately led to her in tears and an ice cream binge. She really was not looking for another one of those kinds of relationships. She wanted something more permanent, something more stable. Courtney had not had an actual 'boyfriend' for a while, only guys she had fun with. She had upped her standards and was having difficulty finding a guy that met them.
"I... I just guess, I mean... I don't want you to feel pressured or anything. But I'd like to hang out again or something," she said. "If you want to," she added.
Courtney hated how those words had come out, but she was nervous. She normally was not this tongue tied. Then again she was used to having the guys do the asking. But what was she asking for really? What did she want from him? She knew that he could not actually date her. His parent's would kill him. Hell, most of his friends would advise against it given the reputation she had been saddled with in high school. It seemed so long ago now, but it really had not been at all.
Courtney waited for the rejection. It would be nice, that was the way Rob was, but it would still leave her feeling embarrassed. Her wings would burn and she'd come hurtling towards the Earth.
"Yeah, for sure," Rob replied, not wanting to sound too eager.
Courtney felt her heart lift and a smile bloomed on her face. A strange fluttering started in her chest, a smile wider than was appropriate for the moment stretching along her lips. Courtney felt flustered, and more than a touch flushed. She decided she needed to get away from him now or she would mess this up.
"Cool. You'd better get dressed," she said, getting up from the bed.
Winston trotted beside her as she left the room, leaving Rob to put his clothes on. His shirt was wrinkled from being in a ball on the floor all night, but as he looked at himself in the full-length mirror that Courtney had on the back of her door he did not think he looked too hung over. Rob realised that he was alone in her room, and took the opportunity to look around. The floors were hardwood, the walls a warm red color, trimmed with white. What caught his attention was what she had pinned up on the wall behind her bed.
Normally girls had posters of their favorite bands and singers, but Courtney had records of hers. They lined the entire expanse of the wall, the album covers displayed above the vinyl record themselves, which she had mounted below them. He glanced at the names: Rush, Genesis, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, and many others. Either she had them up for show as a way to impress people, or she genuinely liked all those bands. In which case, she had a very wide range in taste.
Rob decided to leave before it became too obvious that he was snooping. He left the room and entered the hallway to find it empty. He walked down the stairs, finding Wayne waiting for him at the bottom.
"Good night?" he asked him.
Wayne stretched. "Yeah. Sore as hell though. Bathtubs are no place for people my size to sleep."
"You looked pretty comfortable to me," Rob replied cheekily.
Wayne shrugged and grinned. "How about you?"
"Yeah, it was great," he replied.
Wayne nodded. "I thought it would be."
The way he said it rubbed Rob the wrong way.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
Wayne squinted at him tiredly as he yawned. "Nothing really, Courtney's got a good reputation in that department is all. One could even say it precedes her."
Rob frowned slightly, not quite sure what to make of that. Amy arrived by Wayne's side and ran her hand down his arm.
"What're you guys talking about?" she asked.
Wayne wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her petite body against his immense bulk.
"You sweetness," he said smoothly.
Amy smiled. "Nice things I hope."
Wayne nodded. "The nicest."
The little blonde smiled happily and leaned up for a kiss. Rob wondered if he would be seeing more of Amy, Wayne had a charming personality and seemed to acquire girlfriends easily. He was a big softie though, and often got taken advantage of. They continued to talk and they were joined by another couple, Karen and Adam, as they came walking down the stairs.
Rob's eyes met Karen's for a moment, and a look passed between them. It was over before Rob was even sure there had been something to it. Karen held Adam's hand as the five of them talked at the foot of the staircase.
Courtney joined them, her hair now tied back in an athletic ponytail and wearing running shoes. She stood beside Rob but did not take his hand or press against him like the other girls were doing to their dates from the previous night. Winston sat beside her, leaning against her leg. The five of them congratulated her on throwing a great party, and she took their thanks gladly. It could be a lot of pressure having to live up to her reputation.
"Do you need a hand cleaning up?" Karen asked.
She looked exhausted, and horribly hung over. Adam looked dismayed at the idea that he may be caught up in the offer. Courtney laughed and waved her hand dismissively.
"Nah, I'll be alright," she replied.
"Are you sure?" Rob asked. "I could stay. Amy, you could give Wayne a ride home right?"
The blonde smiled brightly at the idea. "For sure."
Wayne grinned at Rob appreciatively for his skillful wingmanship, and Courtney looked at him for a moment. In truth Rob was not being entirely altruistic. Courtney in a pair of sweatpants and a cotton shirt was as sexy as the Courtney in the body hugging dress from the previous night. Maybe more so because now he had first-hand experience of what made the curves and swells of her body so alluring.
She shrugged. "Alright, if you want to. I could use someone to move the furniture back."
That decided the remaining party guests began to depart. Karen took Courtney off to the side and they shared a hurried conversation.
"How was it?" she asked.
Courtney grinned innocently. "How was what?"
"Oh come on, you and Rob. You did it, right?" she asked.
The brunette shrugged her shoulders noncommittally. "Maybe," she said coyly.
Karen whined. "Tell me."
Courtney gave in, unable to maintain the façade of nonchalance.
"Okay, it was good. At least I think it was, we were pretty high at the time," she said.
Courtney was understating, she hasd been practically dizzy with how good it felt with him.
Karen's eyes widened. "You got Rob Kavanagh high?"
"Yeah, he's a trooper actually. Took it no problem," she said.
Karen smirked. "And the 'knee-knocker', how'd you take that."
Courtney's eyes widened and she laughed. "Whoa, naughty girl!"
"I'm the bad one remember?" she remarked.
"Yeah, and I'm evil," Courtney replied.
They were quiet for a moment as the laughed to themselves.
"Listen, Karen. I..." Courtney began uncertainly. "Was Kavanagh your 'Joe Schmoe'?" she asked.
Karen blushed. She thought of denying it, but could see Courtney's intuitive guess had already been confirmed by her hesitation.
Courtney nodded thoughtfully. Those two syllables hung between them for a long moment of silence where Courtney's mind considered the way that knowledge changed the dynamic. If she was honest with herself, Courtney had suspected Rob was the one Karen had slept with the previous week from the beginning. He fit the bill of a) nice, b) cute, and c) present that would lead to that type of event. Karen would not just sleep with any guy, but Rob Kavanagh?
If she had wanted to get back at Adam he was the right guy to do it with. That would have just been the icing on the already very tasty cake. That Adam hated everyone who came from the South End with an irrational passion would just heighten the appeal of the already very attractive package that Rob had presented to Karen.
But what did that mean for her and Rob? Should Courtney stop now? Was Rob really that good of a guy if he'd jump from one girl to another? That was harsh, and Courtney knew it. But she couldn't help but let doubts creep in. They always did, eventually, and usually became perceived faults resulting in her ending a relationship.
Was it even worth trying it with Rob? Would it hurt Karen if she did? No guy was worth that, even one that she had had a crush on since he had shown her a small amount of kindness in tenth grade.
Karen caught wind of what her friend was thinking and sought to snuff out those ideas before they caught flame.
"Listen, it was just a one-time thing. I was down about Adam, Rob was being nice and whatever. We had too much rum, we were both lonely, and things got out of hand. It didn't mean anything, I'm with Adam," she said emphatically.
"Really?" Courtney asked. "Are you positive that's all it was? I don't want to try something with him if it's going to hurt you. There are plenty of other guys out there."
Karen could see that Courtney was serious about this. She would cut all ties with Rob if she thought Karen would get hurt by her dating him. It frustrated Karen that Courtney was so very careful about hurting others but had a reputation for being the exact opposite because of one mistake. Karen was delighted that Courtney and Rob had hit it off so well; everything had gone exactly as she had hoped it would. She had Adam, and now Courtney had an opportunity with a great guy.
"Yes, I'm positive. I love Adam, remember?" she asked.
The corner of Courtney's mouth twitched unhappily. "Yeah, I know."
Karen ignored the tone that had crept into Courtney's voice, seeking to assure her that she and Rob had just been a one-time thing. They were friends, that was all, and things were going really well with Adam right now. Last night had been a bit of a dud in the bedroom, but everything prior to that had been fine. He had been charming and nice to everyone, including Brianna, who both were trying to forgive for Courtney's sake.
Karen did not want to make Courtney choose between her and a friend she had had since kindergarten, perhaps because she feared who she would choose. Adam had been surprisingly good at being civil towards Brianna, something Karen took as a sign that he was changing. He had never been a forgiving soul, and seeing that he was being one for her made Karen sure that he really was trying to be a better man for her.
"Do you like him?" Karen asked.
Courtney smiled. "He's cool, I guess."
Karen recognized that look. "You totally do! I knew you would."
Courtney could not help the smile on her face, she felt silly but thinking of him made her happy.
"Yeah, I do. I didn't think I would though, I mean he's not... What I'd thought he'd be like," she said.
