Sydney looked across the crowded club and saw Mya. Immediately, she was awestruck by Mya's incredible beauty and the gracefulness with which she moved about the room. There was something about Mya, though…something Sydney couldn't quite put her finger on.

She continued to watch, eyeing Mya's every move until it dawned on her…she'd known Mya in college. With that knowledge, Sydney approached Mya and reintroduced herself. The two exchanged hugs and pleasantries as they began to catch up.

Sydney discovered that Mya was in a relationship, a fact that left her with a sudden sadness. While she certainly wanted the best for Mya, she couldn't help but be envious of her lover. In college, Sydney had intense feelings for Mya, but could never bring herself to act on them…a mistake that she'd regretted.

Sydney found herself in a very awkward position. She didn't want to come between Mya and her lover, as it was obvious that they had a loving relationship…but she was tormented by her renewed passion. It was getting late, so the two decided that they should meet for dinner and continue catching up…after all, quite a bit had happened in their lives since college. They hugged once more and said their goodbyes, going their separate ways for the night.

-----------

The hours preceding their dinner 'date,' Sydney struggled with all the emotions that seemed to come out of the blue. She hadn't expected that she'd react so strongly to Mya, and wasn't sure how to handle her feelings.

Her mind recollected the many fantasies she'd had involving Mya, but one particular fantasy stood out. She imagined Mya lying naked on a white shag rug before a fireplace…just waiting for Sydney to make love to her. Sydney caressed every inch of Mya's body, leaving a trail of feathery, light kisses and licks. She totally adored Mya's body and wanted to take her time appreciating it. Finally, she brought Mya to the edge and induced such pleasure that Mya seemed almost delirious.

Now, that fantasy was all Sydney could think of. She vacillated between doing nothing and formulating a plan to seduce Mya at their dinner meeting. The hours seemed to drag on mercilessly as she debated her options.

----------

Mya spent the day remembering the good times she'd had with Sydney. They'd spent hours just talking while they were in college and became the best of friends. Something haunted her; however…she'd had romantic feelings for Sydney, but never knew how to handle those feelings. She wasn't sure if Sydney was a lesbian, and she certainly didn't want to risk damaging their friendship. So, she kept those feelings to herself, but found that they seemed to be resurfacing since reuniting with Sydney. She told herself that she was in a committed relationship, and that anything sexual with Sydney was completely out of the question. Still, she couldn't ignore the sudden longing that she felt to finally tell Sydney how she really felt.

Her train of thought was interrupted when her lover came home from running some errands. She was filled with guilt and her lover picked up on it immediately. "What's wrong, my love?" she asked.

Mya didn't know how to respond, but she managed to utter, "I'm just feeling a little off today, that's all."

Her lover lifted Mya's chin, drawing her to look at her and said, "I don't think that's it. Come on baby, tell me what's bothering you."

The guilt Mya felt was instantly compounded, and she began to weep uncontrollably. Knowing that Mya rarely cried, her lover was alarmed and escorted her to the sofa where she could hold her and try to offer some comfort. Once she'd calmed down, Mya told her lover that she just wasn't ready to talk. This seemed to upset her lover, as they'd always been very open with each other. Mya sensed this, and decided to go out and try to sort out her feelings.

----------

After much deliberation, Sydney came to the conclusion that she simply must express her true feelings for Mya. She knew that such a confession could very well lead to the destruction of their friendship, but she was simply torn up inside. She chastised herself for being so selfish…she'd always looked after the needs of others before her own, but she just couldn't help herself.

With their dinner date rapidly approaching, Sydney searched her closet…looking for the perfect outfit to wear. She settled on her favorite black dress with a slit up side…almost to her hip. She adorned herself with her sexiest lingerie and her black pumps. Examining herself in the mirror, she was satisfied that she looked fabulous…she wanted to 'wow' Mya from the get go. With everything in place, Sydney headed to the restaurant to meet Mya.

-----------

Mya found herself in a dilemma about what to wear to their dinner date. Part of her wanted to dress in her sexiest number, but the more practical side of her was pushing for a more conservative outfit. Her more devious side won out in the end, though, and she opted for a slinky red dress that was open in the back. She went about choosing her lingerie and shoes and readied herself for the encounter.

In truth, she had no idea how to even broach the subject with Sydney…she had no idea where her preferences or intentions lied. She shook her head and laughed at herself as she felt the butterflies in her stomach…just like she were a kid looking forward to her first kiss. Convinced she was as ready as she'd ever be, Mya headed to the restaurant to meet Sydney.

-----------

The restaurant was intimate, providing an ambience that was quite comfortable and alluring. Sydney had already arrived and secured a table when Mya arrived. They hugged again, but this time they each felt an electric surge from the contact. Sydney ordered a bottle of wine, and the two began to talk…but there was an uncomfortableness in their discussion that they both noticed.

Sydney had one of those moments where the angel on one shoulder told her to leave well enough alone, while the devil on the other shoulder urged her to go ahead with her instincts. Finally, she summoned her courage and changed the course of their conversation.

"Mya, I know you're in a relationship, so what I'm about to say is very difficult for me," she admitted.

Mya looked at her with questioning eyes, but the beauty in those eyes only served to encourage Sydney.

"I've had feelings for you for years now. I don't know why I didn't tell you sooner, and I know that this is probably the worst timing in the world, but I've just got to tell you," she continued.

There was an uncomfortable silence before Mya spoke up, "It's ironic…I've been thinking all day about the feelings that I have for you," she confessed.

Sydney's heart skipped a beat. Never in her wildest dreams did she think that Mya also had feelings for her. The two smiled sheepishly at one another, and Sydney asked, "So what are we going to do about this?"

A sadness began to fill Mya's eyes as she contemplated her situation. To be with Sydney would mean giving up her lover, which would be an incredibly hard thing for her to do. Sydney tried to ease the obvious pain Mya felt, "Love, I can wait for you. I realize that you will need to make some difficult decisions," she said.

Mya nodded and looked up and into Sydney's eyes. She saw kindness mixed with passion in those eyes and gazed into them for a few minutes. She believed that Sydney meant what she said, but her eyes were quickly convincing her to leave her lover and embrace a relationship with Sydney. Mya reached across the table and took Sydney's hands, "I want to be with you, now. I don't know how I'm going to end things with my lover, but this is truly what I want," she said.

Sydney was suddenly worried that she'd pressured Mya into this decision, but everything in Mya's face and the way she held on to her hands told her that this really was what Mya wanted. The two left the restaurant without having dinner and headed to Sydney's place.

Lovingly, they undressed each other and basked in the beauty that they saw in each other. Their lips met, finally, engaging in a deep, passionate kiss, which seemed to last forever. After exploring their bodies, they delved into each other…finding a rhythm that brought them to an ecstasy that they hadn't known. They laid in each other's arms and fell asleep.

---------

The next day, Mya had a talk with her lover…explaining that she'd fell in love with another and had to do what made her happy. She expressed her regret for having so suddenly ended things and hoped that her lover wouldn't think ill of her.

Surprisingly, the two parted amicably and Mya prepared to embark on a new life with Sydney.

Both Sydney and Mya were amazed at how their years of unrequited love had finally culminated into such a promising relationship, but each looked forward to spending many years with the other.

Too little

After ten years it's probably unlikely that you'll read this comment. However, if you do... This is a well-written story and I've given you five stars on that basis. However, given the serious tone of the story, I think that it's far too short, abrupt almost. With a bit of careful planning, character building and drama you could have run to several pages (this site sized pages) and the tale would have been all the better for it. As it is, Mya and Sydney are little more than cardboard cut-outs whereas they could have been fully rounded and believable characters.
