Anna-Maria Perez was excited. It was her first day at her new job and she just knew it was going to be the greatest day ever!
She primped her hair for the last time before stepping out of the elevator on to the fifth floor of her office building. Her footfalls thumped softly in the plush carpet as she walked quickly to her new office, her smile wide and beaming as she passed a few people in the silent corridors. She turned the last corner leading to her door and pushed it open.
Immediately she stopped dead in her tracks. A woman about fifteen years her senior was sitting in her chair and talking animatedly into the phone. Her feet were propped on the desk and her head was thrown back as she leaned as far back as the plush leather chair would allow.
She was Filipina just like Anna-Maria and very attractive. She was slender and slight of build and seemed to be no taller than Anna's five feet one inch, although her coiffed hair added at least two or three inches to her height. In her late thirties the woman appeared to embody everything an ambitious woman like Anna-Maria aspired to.
Anna was twenty-three and had just graduated college. She always turned heads wherever she went due to her long wavy dark brown hair and elfin face. Although she never lacked for attention from boys she had not been extremely sexually active in college save for an incident in her first year. One wild weekend had led to a number of different partners and two separate threesomes, both with attractive girls she had not met before or seen since. After that weekend was over Anna had made a conscious decision to avoid similar situations and to concentrate on school and making something of her self.
She stared at the woman in her chair now and began to feel uncomfortable, wondering where this situation left her.
"Yes Darling," the woman purred gently into the phone, "I promised you didn't I? I told you it would be there no later than tomorrow and I guarantee it. Don't worry Love. I promise you. If it's not there when I promised I guarantee I'll make amends. Yes, you know what I mean."
The woman giggled emphatically and toyed with a few strands of her hair as she listened.
"You have my word Love," she said, "for sure! See you next week, maybe even sooner."
She hung up the phone and gazed at Anna-Maria like a Basilisk. There was no warmth in those eyes. In fact, Anna couldn't see anything in them. She couldn't help but feel she was staring at one of those life-like paintings where the eyes seemed to follow you as you moved about the room.
The woman smiled suddenly and rose from her chair. Instantly the coldness in her eyes evaporated and Anna found herself staring into one of the more animated faces she had ever seen.
"You must be Anna-Maria," the woman said as she stepped forward to shake her hand. "I'm Rosaria Garcia, but you can call me Rosa, everyone does."
Anna-Maria smiled uncertainly and took Rosa's hand mechanically.
"I'm sure you're feeling confused," the woman said. "Here you are, your first day on your new job and there's some old hag in your chair talking on your phone!"
She laughed at her own joke and squeezed Anna's hand gently before letting it go.
"I've been sent here by head office to show you the ropes," Rosa said. "In fact, you'll be taking over my stable of clients so I can move onward and upward!"
"Really," Anna said. Her head was spinning from so much information in such a short space of time. "I had no idea."
Rosa smiled graciously and took Anna's hand in hers once more.
"Don't worry," she said warmly, "every few years all of our sales reps are assigned to clients they haven't worked with before. That's how we keep things fresh."
"Oh," Anna said weakly.
"Now," Rosa said all business once more, "let's get you acquainted with your new clients."
She led Anna to her chair behind her desk and then opened a large leather folder on the desk in front of her.
"This is a master list of every one of your new best friends," she said with a wry grin. "And make no mistake about it! That is exactly what you will be, their friend!"
She looked meaningfully at Anna and went on.
"Our products sell themselves," she said. "Unfortunately, so do the products of every one of our competitors. So, with all things being equal, the only thing we have left to offer is ourselves. That means being their friend, their confidante and whatever else they need you to be!"
"Oh," Anna-Maria said doubtfully.
"So," Rosa said sternly, "if you have any reservations about whether you're going to give everything you have to this job, you might as well pack up and leave right now!"
Anna swallowed and felt a flutter of nervousness enter her belly. She blinked rapidly to get herself under control. She swallowed once more and forced herself to stare into Rosa's eyes.
"I swear," she said, "I will be very diligent and I will do whatever I have to for my clients."
"Your friends," Rosa corrected her and then smiled. "Don't worry Anna, I have the feeling you'll be great!"
Anna let out a deep breath that she didn't realize she was holding and then smiled.
"Now," Rosa said, "Let's get through this folder and then we can go around and meet some of them."
After what seemed like hours but was really only a little over one hour, Rosa sighed and stood up, stretching cat like and reaching as high to the ceiling as she could get.
"Now that that's done," she said tiredly, "let's get out and meet some of your new friends face to face. Some fresh air will do us both some good"
Anna-Maria found she was beginning to like Rosa despite her initial first impression. She rose and gave her best smile and followed Rosa out the door.
"I'll drive," she said over her shoulder as she led the way to the elevator. "I know where they are and you can write down directions if you need to."
Anna nodded business like and checked her bag to make sure she had a notepad.
The ride down to the ground floor was silent except for the occasional sigh from Rosa. Anna was sure the other woman could hear her heart pounding in her chest but she gave no sign that she was aware of her nervousness.
Once outside Rosa walked quickly to her car. She unlocked the doors and dropped her briefcase in the backseat. Anna followed suit, leaving her own bag in the back and then climbed in.
The car was quiet for the most part as they drove. Rosa would comment on various clients from time to time but mostly concentrated on driving.
After about twenty minutes they pulled up in front of a condominium building and Rosa got out of the car without saying a word. Anna followed feeling somewhat confused.
"I thought we were visiting clients," she said feebly.
"Not dressed like that you're not," Rosa said as she breezed through the front door.
Anna looked down at her tailored pant suit and looked back up at Rosa.
"What's wrong with how I'm dressed?" she protested.
"My clients have come to expect a certain way of doing things," Rosa said as she eyed Anna up and down critically. "And one thing they won't like is someone dressed like an uptight librarian."
When they reached her condo she led the way through to the bedroom and went directly to the closet. She pulled a few outfits out and made humming noises while she looked them over.
"Here," she said finally while throwing a blue dress on to the bed. "This looks like it will fit you."
"But," Anna said weakly, looking over the tiny dress. There hardly seemed to be anything to it. "I can't wear something like that. I'm not even wearing pantyhose!"
"Good," Rosa said. "Don't ever wear them if you know what's good for you. Now put this on."
Feeling a little like she'd been through a fist fight, Anna meekly accepted the dress and looked around for a place to change. Seeing no private place to retreat to she looked helplessly at Rosa.
"Well?" the older woman said impatiently. "What are you waiting for? Get out of those dowdy clothes and put on the dress! At least it will make you look like a woman."
Anna-Maria blushed and Rosa breathed a sigh of exasperation.
'Here," she said tersely, "turn around."
Anna turned and felt Rosa tugging on her black blazer. Next she unbuttoned her blouse while reaching from behind her. Helpless as the other woman's fingers deftly undid all of her clothes, Anna soon found herself wearing just her camisole a bra under that and a brief pair of French cut panties.
Rosa stood back and looked her up and down. She held the dress up once more and then threw it back onto the bed. She reached forward and began tugging at Anna's camisole.
"You'll have to lose the camisole too," she said curtly. "With some outfits it would look great, but not this one."
"Wait!" Anna said loudly. "Wait I can't go without my camisole! My bra is practically see-through!"
With the younger girl's camisole raised halfway over her head, Rosa turned her around and looked at the exposed bra and smiled. The girl's bright pink nipples could be clearly seen through the frilly lace design.
"You're right!" she said. "It is transparent! Even better! I was beginning to lose all hope for you. Now that I know you don't mind a little risqué lingerie, I feel better about your chances at this job."
Helpless against the older woman's single-mindedness Anna-Maria was soon dressed in just her bra and panties and blushing furiously.
She spread her hands across her chest to hide her breasts but Rosa gripped her wrists firmly and pulled them away so she could study her body.
"I don't know why you're behaving this way," she said casually. "You've got a great body! You're going to have to learn to flaunt it if you want to succeed."
Anna-Maria's eyes went wide and she stared at Rosa in shock.
"What does that mean?" she asked fearfully.
"Oh relax," Rosa said dismissively. "I'm just saying that with my client list, you're going to have to make them like you. If you insist on dressing like a dowdy old maid, they won't like you very much."
"Oh," Anna said feebly.
"Now, get this dress on and let's have a look at you!" Rosa said with a grin.
Anna obediently slipped the dress on over her head and Rosa stepped behind her to fasten the buttons that went from just above her bra to her waist. Then she put her in front of the full length mirror and admired her handiwork.
"Much better!" she said with satisfaction.
Anna-Maria had to admit that the dress did look nice on her. It was blue and hugged her petite body nicely. There was a narrow tie-belt at the waist. The ends of the belt fell just past the hips on her left side. The neckline was a little lower than she would have liked; the lace from the top of her bra peeked alluringly over the top but it covered her see-through bra adequately so she guessed it would be okay. The hemline too was higher than she liked. It rode a full six inches above her knee and she would have to be careful when sitting so as not to flash her panties to anyone who cared to watch.
She looked down at Rosa's hemline and realized that hers was even shorter. Anna wondered how the woman retained any modesty when sitting down. Surely her panties would show with the slightest bend of her knee, she thought.
"Okay," Rosa said with satisfaction, "now you're ready to meet some of your new best friends!"
With that she led the way out of the condo and back to the car. On the way, Anna-Maria couldn't help but blush a little. With no pantyhose covering her legs and her hemline so high, she practically felt naked. She breathed a sigh of relief after sitting in the car and then they were on their way.
Rosa was much more talkative as they drove this time.
"Our first stop is a guy named Ned Fellowes," she said. "He's not in the top ten list but still he buys a fair amount. Every month he will provide you a small to medium sized order, that is, provided you keep him happy."
"How do I do that?" Anna asked with some trepidation.
"Oh nothing too rash," Rosa said. "Smile nicely for him, show him some leg and, well, make him feel good."
"Show him some leg?" Anna asked with alarm.
"Of course!" Rosa replied without looking at her. "You've got them. You should flaunt them!"
"Oh," Anna said quietly, suddenly feeling as though she had stepped out of her depth.
After a short drive she pulled into a parking lot in front of a long low building. Rosa parked the car and led Anna through the front door. She asked for Ned at the front desk and soon enough a rather plain looking man in his fifties came to greet them.
He looked a little sallow and his eyes were big and rheumy. His brown suit was rumpled and hung off his frame limply. Despite his short comings in the looks department, Rosa greeted him with glee, smiling and taking his hands softly in hers. She gave him a demure look and batted her eyes before giving him a soft peck on the cheek. Then she turned to introduce Anna-Maria.
"Ned Darling," she said, "this is Anna-Maria Perez. She will be your new accounts manager."
Ned's eyes went wide with surprise and Anna also noted a hint of consternation. She smiled brightly and shook his hand vigorously.
"It's a real pleasure to meet you Ned," she said with enthusiasm.
"Yeah," he said noncommittally, "nice to uh, yeah sure."
Rosa, seeing the lukewarm reception Anna was receiving immediately stepped forward and took Ned by the arm.
"Come Ned," she said sweetly, "let's go into your office and discuss your next order."
Anna began to follow them but Rosa turned to her and gave her the car keys.
"Anna dear," she said, "I wonder if you could go and get me a low-fat latte, there's a place just around the corner."
"Oh," Anna said with surprise, "sure. I guess so."
"That'll be fine love," she said with a bright smile. "I'll meet you in the parking lot. Don't worry I won't be long."
Anna watched them go toward his office, Rosa leaning against him and still gripping his forearm firmly while talking to him in low tones. After a few minutes she turned around and went to the car. She went to the coffee shop and returned within fifteen minutes.
She parked in the lot and waited. After about five minutes Rosa returned to the car. Anna-Maria looked at her and realized that her hair was a little mussed and her lipstick was smeared slightly from her upper lip. She noticed also that there was a slight sheen of sweat on her neck and upper chest.
"Are you okay?" she asked her.
Rosa looked at her for a moment without saying anything and then jerked her thumb over her shoulder as she stood beside the car door.
"I'll drive," she said curtly.
Anna moved to the passenger seat and they left the lot and drove in silence for a long time. Rosa appeared to be thinking about something and then she sighed as if she had come to some sort of decision. Suddenly she pulled into a gas station and parked against the fence far away from the door.
"Okay listen," she said, giving Anna-Maria a serious look. "That last meeting was a disaster. When I told Ned that you would be his rep, he realized that he was going to lose me. To him that meant he would lose all those things I do for him."
"What does that mean?" Anna asked, her heart falling in her chest. "What do you do for him?"
"I told you already," Rosa explained patiently. "Smile at him sweetly. Show him some leg. Make him feel special. Make him like you. Do whatever you have to do to make him like you."
"What does that mean?" Anna said, becoming horribly confused.
Rosa sighed heavily and sat back in her seat. She stared straight ahead thinking. After a moment she reached into her purse and pulled out a crumpled tissue.
"Take this," she said.
Anna took the tissue and looked at it curiously.
"Stick your tongue into the tip there and tell me what you taste," Rosa said.
Anna blinked and looked at her in surprise. Rosa nodded meaningfully and narrowed her eyes.
Anna gingerly touched her tongue to the tissue and found a salty flavor.
"Well?" Rosa said. "Do you know what it is?"
Anna shook her head slowly and Rosa sighed again.
"Okay, never mind," she said. "We're going to meet another client next. This time I'm not going to introduce you as their new rep. I'm just going to tell them I'm showing you around."
"Okay," Anna said sadly.
"When I introduce you this time," Rosa went on, "don't shake his hand the way you did with Ned."
"Why not?" she asked.
"Here, give me your hand."
Anna reached forward and Rosa took her hand in hers. Anna was struck immediately at the softness of her skin and how she seemed to fold her fingers into her hand. Unexpectedly she felt a shiver run through her as if she had been touched intimately.
"You see?" Rosa said. "Did you see how it's done?"
"I, I think so," Anna said uncertainly.
"Okay you try it."
Anna reached forward and tried to fold her fingers into Rosa's hand the way the other woman had done.
Rosa frowned and told her to try again. Anna grimaced and once again tried to fold her fingers into Rosa's hand.
"You've almost got it," she said, "but there's one thing missing. Right as my hand closes over your fingers, brush your fingertip against my palm."
Anna widened her eyes in surprise and Rosa nodded encouragingly.
Anna tried again, this time softly touching the tip of her finger to Rosa's palm. This time she felt a shiver run through her again and she realized that this handshake Rosa was teaching her was almost erotic in its nature.
"That was quite good!" Rosa said with a smile.
Anna blushed and frowned.
"I don't know," she said awkwardly. "It felt almost, like it was..."
"Sexual?" Rosa said emphatically.
"Good!" she said. "That means you're doing it right."
"But, it feels like I'd be almost throwing myself at him."
"Yes," Rosa said evenly, "it does. And if you do that, he will like you guaranteed."
"I don't know if I can do that," Anna said sadly.
Rosa looked at her without expression for a moment and then nodded. She sighed heavily and then smiled weakly at Anna.
"I understand," she said quietly.
"You do?" Anna asked hopefully.
"Yes, I understand completely," she said with an air of sadness.
Anna smiled with relief and only then realized that Rosa looked unhappy.
"What is it?" she asked. "Is something wrong?"
Rosa sighed again and laid her hand softly on Anna's arm.
"There's a taxi in that parking lot over there," she said. "Go grab it and go back to the office. Clean out your things and go home."
Anna-Maria's eyes went wide and her mouth fell open in shock.
"You're firing me?" she said.
"I've told you what you need to do to succeed," Rosa said. "If you can't do it, I don't see any reason to waste your time or mine anymore. Do you?"
Anna closed her mouth and bit back on the tears that were welling in her eyes.
"I'm sorry," Rosa said, "but that's just the way it is. Any sales job you get anywhere will require you to use all your talents to boost your production. And those talents include the fact that you're a woman.
"If you're not willing to do whatever it takes to make your clients happy, I don't care where you go. You will never succeed by giving half measures."
Anna looked at Rosa and took a deep breath. She looked at the taxi a few yards away and then looked back at Rosa.
"Okay," she said. "I'll do it. I'm just nervous about, you know, making men think that, you know; that I might actually let them..."
"Surely you're not a virgin!" Rosa said with surprise.
"Well, no I'm not," Anna said defensively. "But I'm not some kind of floozy either you know."
"Is that what you think I am," Rosa said archly, "some kind of floozy?"
Anna blushed immediately and began to stammer a response but stopped after she saw Rosa chuckling to herself. The older woman put a hand on her arm and waved back any apology.
