Some words from HandsInTheDark:

The blue image is a detail from a computer generated "watercolor" of flowers. I like it because I created it and the software I wrote to generate wasn't intended to create flowers. My stories are that way as well; they don't always come out as I expect.

I write complicated, flawed characters. None of them speak for me and none of them represent an ideal anything.

My stories explore the line between reluctance and non-consent, though many contain willing submission. As such they don't exactly fit established categories; D/s folk raise eyebrows at the non-consent scenes and the rape fetish folk are probably put off by the affection and devotion that often shows up in my stories. My main theme is the journey a woman undergoes when a man breaks social rules (and often ethical rules) to court her or claim her. Some of the male characters are evil (Toymaker, Captured Princess), some are amoral but likable (Becoming Marie, Drug Trial), and none of them made it through Sunday school. They generally get their girl (with some notable exceptions) by force of will. In short, if you are looking for gentle romance, candy and flowers, I'm not your guy. (Becoming Marie ends up a romance, but you wouldn't guess it from the first page.)

Some commentators have come to the conclusion that I think women should be second class citizens, at least sexually, and they search my pages in vain for the strong heroine who unflinching controls her own sexual destiny. No, I don't think that real women in the real world should all be sexual slaves, or submissive by choice or force. My characters don't speak for me; they simply exist to explore the darker side of eroticism. As a female reader, my stories will get you hot, but they might also make you question why THAT, of all things, gets you hot. My writing explores the difference between what's good for us, and what turns us inside out, sexually. They are rarely the same, and if you've ever gotten wet to a video of a man slapping a woman, while being opposed to the brutality it represents, you know what I'm talking about. (Some of my characters do express philosophies on male dominance, and some of them sell it very convincingly, but that doesn't mean I think everyone should buy it.)

To answer some questions that come up in my email. No, I didn't like either Gor or 50 Shades of Grey. No, I will not be your Dom. No, I don't wish to discuss your life as a Domme and why I should write about it; dommes bore me to tears. Yes, I really am male and thank you for not being sure, because that means I'm doing a good job writing female characters. No, I do not want pictures of you "enjoying" my stories, at least not unless you look like a 23 year old Catherine Zeta Jones. No, I don't think all women are bi; those scenes are fanservice for my male readers. (And besides, Enjine is a fascinating and broken character in her own right.) My favorite character is Windy and she doesn't even get a sex scene, so make of it all what you will.

Please note that I don't always respond to emails, and at the slightest hint of stalking, or correspondence from anyone underage or deemed emotionally disturbed, you will be silently blocked from my mailbox.
