The character of Liza is based on a real person whose actual experience inspired the story, "Liza's Debt." The true Liza didn't progress much beyond paying that first debt, and she had come to regret it. When she admitted this and discussed her attitudes and feelings to me, we both began to wonder what might have been. With her permission, advice, and imagination, I have continued her story from her point of view, putting her in different situations, to see if we can discover 'what might have been.' It is our hope that her example might inspire the next "Liza" to know what can be, and to realize her dreams.
The prequels to Liza's novel may each stand on its own, but are best enjoyed in chronological order.
