The Cage
1988

Lying quietly

Waiting

Now!

Break for it!

Click!

The door shuts

Bang!

A body collides with the door

Through a tiny window

light filters in

The cold steel bars

holding in

Cold floor on bare feet

Cold chills of loneliness on a spine

Open swings the door!

Free air flows in!

Snap!

a leash clasp

A heart starts to flutter

as it is lead outside

How sweet it tastes

Slolwy now, not too much

at one time

No!

Not again!

Fighting, growling

Push!

Click!

Again the door is shut

Over and over

each day

Someday

Oh, Someday

I will get out!

Then I'll truly be free

I hate this cage

Someone,

Anyone

Free me!
