THE TENDER TRAP
By VelvetPie

Beware the tender trap
My mother used to say,
It sneaks up on the best of us
When our heart’s at play.
The tender trap has jaws that bite
That tear you all apart,
The trap has also claws too sharp
That tear into the heart.

But I, I did not listen
While my heart was at play,
I forgot my mother’s words
And the time she’d taken to say,
“Beware the tender trap, my dear.”
The words are in my head.
But foolishly I didn’t listen
And now my heart is dead.
