Silence,
Where there was clamour
Stillness,
Where there was movement;
Peace,
Where there was pain;

As I opened my eyes,
And looked upon my world,
A world that would never be the same;
As I looked upon the cause of these changes
And all the changes to come;
As I looked upon the reason
For the joy and wonder in my heart;
For the sudden tears in my eyes,
For the unaccustomed turmoil in my mind,
As I looked upon the reason
For this awakening of a different me,
As I looked upon the bundle in my arms
Warming my heart and my soul,
As I looked upon, my son

Nice poem.

Nothing tugs at a mothers heart strings like that first look at her newborn child.

It is so hard...

to try and capture that moment. My son and I spent the first hour of his life together in ICU. The placenta burst prior to delivery and they were being extra cautious. It scared my wife and I, but everything turned out fine. Wonderful Mat.

One line to long

I think your poem would be even better if you omitted the last line. The theme is already obvious, and it is not really needed. - Just an opinion.
