looking behind today
you see "the one"

no longer rising to
greet tomorrow,
you linger
in a stagnent pool of
salty grief.

embracing arms
long to pull you
from sorrow's decay,
to reveal a touch
no twist of fate
can dismiss.

how long
will your heart hold
the ghosts...
what was never
what you longed to live.

a lifetime was over
a thousand yesterdays ago.
