I wonder when the frost fell.
One evening beneath the covers
oblivious to the world,
or the weather?
Did the aurora dance gleefully
across the starlit sky,
as the cold front slipped in beneath
the glowing mantle
flung across her shoulders?
The moon, Autumn's mistress,
must have seen.
The birch, lording it over the back yard,
must have shivered.
I want to be lost again
between the sheets of awareness
and only be aware
of you.

Champ! I love that moment when you know the weather has turned. Its delicious, and so is this poem! Thanks.
cool in tone and images. Wonderful blend. Favorite line....
"Did the aurora dance....
...flung across her shoulders?"
But consider yourself lucky, the leaves on my maple are already bright red and dropping.
Beautiful as frost feathers streaked on window glass! The chill takes my breath away (or is it the sentiment?).
I can feel the breath of winter in your words..you welcome in winter like an intimate friend...and you warm the season with words of love...
Beautifully done Carrie.
