cinders

fantasy conversations
that led to this
flowers on your lips
died quickly in the air
promises fading
in the dusk never to rise with the sun
I dip into the well with
my heart
and
find sand
my bucket fills
with hollow water
my pillow still warm
from your impression
while you
fall into another’s bed
this is the edge your
picture made
this is the
shadow you left

empty like the
desert breeze
your flaming arrow
dies quickly in the air
dropping cold cinders
that
 fall
    upon me
