i know you're not mine
yet i hang on to you
to savor the time someone else will have
i try to keep you with me
i know it is not the way it should be
but i love you
someone else is supposed to have you
for right now i claim you
You were to have children
someone is more compatible
i know you're not mine
i still want you around
to be friends will rip out my heart
i know it's in the future
for right now you are mine
it's not right i know
i want your conversation
i need your company
i will savor what i can
i resent you having to leave
it might be tomorrow
it might be years
but you are not mine
i will pretend you are
until mine comes along

I think many of us can relate to these sentiments. Welcome to Lit, pmbluemoon.
