If words left little doubt,
The air strangled me with ardor.
A sense of defeat and frustration
exposed a shared strife.
The roads we traveled differed.
Our faces dented by the collisions of life.
Scuff marks sullied faded white walls.
Your hands trembled uncontrollably
from cigarette withdrawal.
I waited in vain
for a glimmer of redemption.
You met me halfway
but couldn’t hide your contemption.
Midway down the landing
our eyes met once.
More than our last terminal goodbye

maybe you are better off- I liked this poem, but all of the periods make it seem a bit static instead of flowing
