Deceit: A Villanelle
We would have conquered the whole world together
I would have dedicated my life to you
If only you didn't wear a mask of lies.
I lived in shadows darkened by pain and fear.
My faith in unconditional love you grew.
We would have conquered the whole world together.
You portrayed yourself to be loving and kind.
I loved and cherished the illusion you drew.
If only you didn't wear a mask of lies.
You discounted what you see in the mirror,
I would have been in love with all that is true.
We would have conquered the world together.
You stole dust from me and ignored the treasure.
The love I have to give is of great value.
If only you didn't wear a mask of lies.
Your heart is hardened and tarnished black with greed.
Your lies cost you dearly, if only you knew.
We would have conquered the world together,
if only you didn't wear a mask of lies.
