Surprisingly, euphemistic (naughty?) in its poignant sudden flash of exposed vulnerability and probably learned pain, like a clown who just took of the mask and the grim face of a pained person shocks you in a moment. I guess, the contrast with the pen name of the author did it's part in this case for me as well.
