a light brush and press of lips.
A jolt,
not unexpected.
A startling goodbye
simple gesture
blood thrums
So chemistry as well.
A new thing to factor in
with curiosity
and growing fondness.
Tingly tiny kiss.
The sensation lingers
as I drive through the
soft velvet night.
My car cuts a line down the highway
following endless golden ribbons.
White lines like lane
bumpers
keep my thoughts
from going too wide.
I wear a smile
much longer
than is necessary,
but keep myself from
the distant fields of expectation.
Slow feels good.
and right.
Between the lines,
we’ll get wherever we are going.
No need to rush.
I lean back into the seat,
music too loud,
air conditioning streaming
cold across my skin.
There is an elephant in the room
when we sit together,
and it amuses me
that even after I have left the house,
it gallops along next to the car
trying to be acknowledged..
I’d like friendship,
but even if I won’t speak out loud of the great beast gallomping along side my car
I do see it
in all it’s circus colors,
with balloons that drum against its sides,
and a darling acrobat of a girl
clinging for her life.
I liked this poem quite a bit for its overall effect, but it had a few things that bothered me. I wanted blood to do something other than thrum. I wanted the night to be something other than soft velvet. I wanted to see "galloping alongside" instead of "gallomping along side," and I wanted to see "its circus colors" instead of "it's circus colors." But I liked the unity, clarity, progression and imagination; and the last three lines were wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
