He left a wife and daughter
About the age of three
He left his darling mistress
In a cottage by the sea

In a cottage by the sea they met
He knew young love anew
But time and duty called him forth
Decisions he would rue

What ailed this poor young lover
What could have killed him so?
He bore no marks of violence
Yet death had laid him low

In a cottage by the sea she wept
Til sea o’er swept her pain
No more tormented by the thought
That love had killed that man

A Sailor In Distress

O'er storm tossed seas and angry skies
A young sailor sailed alone
His barque emitted groans and sighs
Through all he was alone
The flesh upon his sail was rent
In agony cried "Alone!"
The wood upon the vessel bent
The heavens wept alone
His only wish, to live or die
To exist but not alone
His life now forfeit, his time was nigh
He plied his craft alone
The vessel trembled, violently shattered
Its splinters sailed alone
The young man sank, his body battered
In darkness drowned alone
The tempest finally subsided
On shores washed up alone
In the lands that he had once resided
He was buried there alone
That night under moonlit sky
One lonely soul did say goodbye

Wry smile turns to grimace
Pleasure turns to pain
Endless toil replaces leisure
Clear skies all turn to rain
Lugubrious thoughts pervade the mind
They laugh and cry in tandem
Actions that reflect the soul
Tempestuous and quite random
What once was found is now quite lost
In a morass that remains too tangled
The heart so strong now faintly murmurs
Was proud but now lies mangled
What could cause a weary soul
Confused by love and lust
To turn endeavors ever southward
And grind all things to dust?
