I hold a memory:
A young man with dark hair,
And eyes that can see my soul.
Sometimes a friend,
Bringing me out of myself,
Reminding me who I am,
Making me laugh when I’m trying not to cry.
Sometimes an enemy,
Making me angry,
Not only at him, but at myself for the anger.
Making me sad to feel his loss from my life.
Sometimes a lover,
Holding me when I most need to be held,
Bringing me hope when I am most afraid to hope,
Giving me back my humanity when it has been stolen from me.
I hold a memory:
A young man with pain in his eyes,
Who does not dare to show his pain,
Or his love.
A young man with strength,
Who helps others find their strength.
A young man with fear,
Who helps others conquer their fears.
He claims to care only for himself,
Yet places others ahead of himself
And does not fear the cost.
I hold a memory:
A young man whom I once loved,
And still love.

Truly lovely

Certain poems beckon from the list; you know you're going to be reading something wonderful. And I had that.

Karenna, this is a glorious, compact, and heartfelt poem. I just, understand. Beautiful. Thank you.
