I saw you yesterday
A dandelion pushing through the sidewalk
Struggling to embrace daylight’s glory
Trodden on with every passerby
Beaten down but never giving in

I met you yesterday
Lost kitten needing love and warm milk
Imploring me with deep and lonely eyes
I’ll never ask for things you can’t provide
Save me and I’ll love you for all time

I loved you yesterday
Tender kisses touched my flesh and seared my heart
Now branded evermore with your desire
I cry with joy and wonder at your being
Tear stained pillows always will remember

I held you yesterday
Smile in my eyes, “I’ll be waiting” on my lips
My heart torn out with a single “goodbye” glance
Was happiness worth the cost of utter anguish?
Perfume lingers on my pillow
