I just was....there with the book down.
Before my Friday morning noise, sound
Was the crackle of wood burning,
All that an old stove might spit
Before dawn....nothing profound.

I had no thought of verb or noun
From the snowflakes, no friend in town
With whom to do commerce....no "should."

I prayed.

It wasn't that I found something.
I faced no worried frown in the pane
Nor laughter from some giddy mood.
I can't say it was bad or good
Or even like a thorny crown.

I just was.
