Click hereAnother evening over the restaurants,
the air is eerie and place stifling.
I light another cigarette, you look at me,
the music is loud and we know, we belong.
Everywhere we look around, familiar faces,
yet, smiles are distant from our lips,
Even the fuzz of the beer fails to cheer,
and I see the vagueness of solitude in your eyes.
We are living a popular life, sans smiles,
we are in love; at least we both have lust.
Indeed my numerous escapades match yours,
and I guess we are the ideal happy couple.
Yet sometimes I long to cry in your arms,
Emancipate myself from my modern existence.
I ransack my mind looking for an iota of truth,
and all that I find is you, my only truth.
The eyes of a solitaire spouse may not be the best source for an evasive truth. Perhaps that's all there is for couples who live the popular lives (and may be even still in lust).
