Click hereI said it so many times back then,
Some Neanderthal, I said to him
Who raised a menacing brow.
No, Adam did when I said it to him.
You and I were naked, I said,
So what would you expect?
Anyone would want to look, so......?
He's all upset, fig leaves first,
Followed with hides I had to sew,
And then the boys start stalking the cat!
But honor thy family, right?
I shut my mouth, got up one day,
Paired with the Prince of Darkness,
Polishing his apple for Chrissake!
Why'd I say that? I don't know why I said that.
Anyhow,
I figured it out:
They wouldn't let women
Read or write.
It's tempting then if I'm a slut
And every woman the same.
Ever wonder who wrote this stuff
And if they ever got laid?
Yeah, right. See ya next month.
Don't bother to send a letter.
still interesting. Satan being given an apple from a woman is a marriage proposal in the western tradition. The eden myth is that of the east, and therefore the apple is a symbol out of place in the eden story. The fig is the apple's equivalent in meaning in the orient and that's why it's not just a silly little aside, as I mentioned to someone else. Fine, the woman's given herself to Satan, but the apple isn't the proper semiotic vessel. Poetry is symbol and imagery, so analysis of symbol is obviously important.
