Your world won't be my world, nor could it be,
For circumstances alter through the years
And history won't quite repeat again,
Though hunger, war, and suffering you'll see
        Aplenty—any world that's real endures
These evil things. What counts is how and when
And with how much intensity you fight
To minimize the damage that occurs
In adversity. That is how men
Leave their only mark. Grow strong, do right.
                        Amen.

Brought shivers...

... and had me think of my own daughter. Absolutely beautiful, true, and profound.

(Thanks to greenmountaineer for mentioning it on PF&D, otherwise I may have never found it.)

very smart, and sweet.... I might leave this for my (oh too real) sons, signed "Your Imaginary Father" :) My 8 year old actually had an imaginary father, he called him "Second Father" oh well, some kids have imaginary friends? Enjoyed this, Pushkine, forgive my rambling

I agree.

An excellent example of the form, with a tender and practical message. Beautiful.
