In Australian, black cockatoos are considered to be an omen of wet weather. Rain is supposed to be coming from the direction from whence they came or if they head inland, cyclonic weather can be expected. Also folklore has it that you can determine the number of days expected by counting the flock; a day for each bird.
Once again you've conjured up the scene beautifully. It left me wanting more, infact I think you could flesh it out a bit - the sound of the rain beginning sets the mood nicely but is the wind strong and is it blowing dust etc, do the cockatoos make a noise as they fly? (I remember the galahs and the noise they make.)
Wll done!
