You see the leap, but not the landing.
I wobble and fumble.
I throw my arms up and smile though
Always keep smiling

You see me turn and think I'm graceful.
It took years to polish that whirl.
Because I'm not the dancer you think I am.
Always keep on your toes.

You see me glide across the stage.
Look away before the perfection falters.
Jeté en avant grande for you all.
Always make it look effortless.

Look at the pretty costume, the bright lights
the scenery, the other dancers, anywhere!
You can make out the outline.
I'm only dancing in silhouette.

Beautiful

Sensual, impressionistic... A lovely poem.

i hope you don't mind my thoughts on this, raven

but it seems to me you could lose so much and still keep the heart of this. if you kept the first line of each strophe, and the last, you have 8 lines that (imo) imply pretty much all the rest your poem says inbetween. in fact, if you cut even further to the first line of each and the final line ... just food for thought. :)

You see the leap, but not the landing.

You see me turn and think I'm graceful.

You see me glide across the stage.

Look at the pretty costume, the bright lights.

I'm only dancing in silhouette.
