It grappled and growled at me
a starving thing
sharp bones and sharper need
and I tried, I tried
to leash it but
I just didn't know
that had I fed it from my hand
and loved it
it would have sat at my feet
and begged to be tamed.

Very nice! Concise, flowed well, strong imagery the reader can do something with: fill in the blank for feral companion. Made me think of Quasimodo.

It

So many meanings for "it." Loved the alliteration, the g's, s's, and t's. "sharp bones and sharper need" was my favorite line. "I just didn't know," how often that's true.
