Light the arc of midnight madness
When the elves and fairies fly
Round the moon and on to Venus
Where the Sun does brightly shine
That’s where they go when daylight spoils
Where they go for mirth and toil
“Pray take me with you,” I exclaim
When life is filled with woe and blame
“Take me where the sun does shine
Where I may live to full design”
The elves and fairies never answer
They just smile and fade from view
I am left to ponder of them
As if of them I never knew

Tell me Doctor, do I imagine
Do these beings truly exist?
Or am I partly delusional
Is it the humidity or simply the mist?
I wonder if I have moved to madness
Or just my imagination is so keen
And yet dear Doctor, on your shoulder
Sits a mermaid color green
How she got there I can’t fathom
She belongs out in the sea
Is it true or do I imagine
Is she sitting there or is it me?
