They say
there’s a
Tragic Gap

the space between
what is real
and
what could be

an unavoidable
part
of humanity

A tension
created
by our hopes
and dreams

Held taut
like a violin string

and it can be
used
this
Tragic Gap
used to spur creation
and imagination

take that tension
that gap between
where we are now
and where we will be
someday

hold it in your hands
as I am
make music
make love
make light
make beauty
make words

create
create me
create me in your image
as I have done with you

while we reside
in this gap
we must make do
with our creations
our magic
our love

love is in oneself
those hormones
belong to one brain
the one atop your shoulders

but in
communication
the brain of the listener
mirrors
that of the speaker

hold that brain connection
even when no words
are spoken

hold that tension
those implicit
whispers
and promises
that hold us
taut
over the
Tragic Gap
