The booms shook me to my core
Or was it the proximity
Of our hands
Between the tarps

We never touched
Not sure if it's because of
Nerves
Or
Not wanting to
Touch
Or
Not wanting to
Make a bad decision

But maybe it was perfect anyway
The thrill of the possibility
Yet remaining chaste
So close...yet...
So many fireworks
Lying next to you
Under the falling embers

We don't need words
Maybe because we're addicted to the thrill of it
Or maybe
Because we are so...right...
Together
It's not just the kitchen in which I can read your mind
(Or you mine)

Maybe you are teaching me
Patience
A life skill I sorely lack

Maybe you are teasing me
Hot and cold
Yes and no

Try as I might
I do not know
Exactly what's in your head

Other than me.

And the fireworks.

This one is one of my favorites...maybe because it so accurately depicts the experience. (Not so much as poetry as what it was intended to be)
