Bags With Little Bodies

Belated thoughts on Sandy Hook Elementary and other school shootings:

Their Breakfasts had been eaten,and
There was school stuff in their packs
Our hearts Willed them Love and Safety
Like a warm breeze at their backs.

We all live the lives we're given
We try to make it all work out.
So how do those who sell the bullets
Seem to live so free from doubt?

The dangers seemed so far away,
We had few thoughts of fear
But when the crazies touched the triggers,
Then, the blood flowed very near

Our darkest dreams have come to pass,
Our brightest hopes died on that day.
When we watched the bags, with little bodies
In them, as they carried them away
